Cooper v. Dupnik
Jan 01, 1991OUTCOME: Cleared of all criminal charges and substantial civil rights award
Michael Cooper was arrested and falsely accused of having committed a series of notorious sexual assaults. Pursuant to a pre-conceived plan, he was interrogated in violation of his Miranda rights, in ... the hopes of eliciting a confession. Mr. Cooper was cleared of all charges, and he sued for a civil rights violation. The United States Court of Appeals, in a landmark decision, recognized an intentional violation of Miranda rights as a civil rights violation.
