Look Elsewhere for a Divorce Attorney

Tejay Coon initially represented me in my divorce. Early in the divorce process my wife suggested mediation rather than going to trial. I agreed although I had little confidence we could settle due to her uncompromising nature. In preparation for mediation Tejay only minimally defined Arizona communi...ty property law to me (I had a complete misconception), did not explain in the least how the mediation process was supposed to work, and laid out absolutely NO strategy only saying that "we will react to their offers." The mediation session turned out as expected with the aggressive opposing counsel’s arguments perceived (through the mediator) to be hard hitting. My wife did not make even the feeblest attempt at negotiations; rather she took the offensive and laid out her demands such as threatening to force me sell the house which I wanted to keep. If Tejay had a better grasp of and experience litigating the law he would have explained to me she couldn’t do that. Instead, he advised and even encouraged me to take her lop-sided offer. Also, at no point did he represent me and my case by attempting to negotiate the equalizations that I was owed from her. Consequently, I felt as though I had an additional adversary, and my perception was that he was intimated by opposing counsel and perhaps even the mediator (a retired Arizona judge). Needless to say, I was disappointed in Tejay’s performance and consider him and Dodd’s Law to be arrogant, more interested in promoting themselves rather than being a proponent for their clients, and all the while charging premium rates. At the suggestion of Mr. Dodd and at a critical point in my divorce process, we mutually agreed to go our separate ways.

Our Rating is calculated using information the lawyer has included on their profile in addition to the information we collect from state bar associations and other organizations that license legal professionals. Attorneys who claim their profiles and provide Avvo with more information tend to have a higher rating than those who do not.

What determines Avvo Rating?
