John Powers graduated from the University of Arizona with a B.A. in 1996, where he was Captain of the baseball team. He earned numerous academic and athletic honors, including selections to the Pac-10 All-Academic Baseball Team and Pac-10 Baseball First Team. After being drafted in the 21st round by the San Diego Padres, John Powers played professional baseball for eight seasons–six before law school and two during–in the San Diego Padres, Chicago Cubs and Texas Rangers organizations. He is the only person ever to play professional baseball while attending law school full time. John graduated from the University of San Diego School of Law in 2004.

-Mediated a summit between a foreign law minister and a Fortune 100 Company addressing a multi-fatality environmental disaster;
-Drafted opinion letters for national hotel chain in $250 million financing of multiple properties;
-Assisted lead counsel in $2 billion multi-state refinancing of national storage company;
