It may sound odd, but Justin planned to become a Marriage and Family Therapist prior to going to law school.  While attending Dixie State, Justin worked with children and youth at the Southwest Behavioral Health Center and then completed all the Marriage and Family Therapy Program pre-requisites at Utah State on his way to a major in Sociology and minor in Family and Human Development.  Prior to graduation, Justin decided instead to go to law school and it didn't take long to gravitate back toward marriages and family.  In addition to his legal practice, Justin also authors the blog Working on Marriage (, which will be published as soon as he takes the time to actually set up the blog and upload his content...).

Justin exclusively handles Divorce and Child Custody-related cases, focusing on cases involving minor children, including co-parenting disputes, child abuse, false allegations of abuse, etc. Justin has represented clients in hundreds of court appearances and mediations, defending what is most important to them: their relationship with their children. Justin will always give his honest assessment and advice, not merely tell you what you want to hear.

Before returning home to Southern Utah in 2017, Justin worked for Moody Brown Law, Utah County’s top divorce and family law firm, since 2011.

Justin loves living in Southern Utah with his wife and three children.

Compassionate Attorney at Turner Law Firm
Justin Caplin, he’s an amazing attorney. I was very satisfied in the way he handled my case. His kindness, knowledge, and his willingness to fight for me was way beyond my expectations. He went up against one of the most unethical attorneys in St George and came out with excellent results. Justin followed the law and stuck up for what was right or what he believed to be right. Which is protecting his clients. Justin is full of heart, but tough in his actions . He’s fair. He was always available to answer my questions. He knows what he’s doing and I would highly recommend Justin Caplin for your legal issues at Turner Law Firm.

The best family and child protective lawyer I know of!
After previously fighting this out for years with other attorneys; I hired Justin in a divorce case wherein I also needed to protect my children physically from past and potential future abuse. With Justin I was able to hand it over to him and trust that he was handling the case properly and with great care for me and my children. The results were just what I had hoped for. His advise was spot on and his knowledge and experience with the law was exactly what I needed. He is the right man for the job and I could not be happier. After several other attorneys failed to represent my children properly he was a true blessing to us all!

Excellent Service from this Lawyer
I needed help with a problem I was having on my divorce decree. I talked with Justin Caplin about it and hired him to help resolve the issues. I was very happy with his service as an attorney. He was very prompt in responding to questions I had, and I appreciated how he always got right back to me. He kept me well informed about what was going on with my case. When we went to court, he was very well prepared. He presented the case well before the judge and won the case. I would recommend using Justin as an attorney.

Crappy don't use if your kids are abused by father.
Justin Caplin asked my daughter to drop her protective order in exchange for supervised visits. The judge would have given her that if he saw the protective order. I saw the father beat the kids. Children had complained about father molesting them. This lawyer did nothing to help us. My daughter got minimum child support and no alimony then, He quit on us and didn't even tell us he left the firm!!! Terrible. He knows nothing about child custody and will not give you anything. Father got full custody and My daughter was accused for coaching kids to say they were abused. My daughter got nothing. My daughter is now going to jail because she was a stay home mom to support his carrier and now she has to support the father. Because the father puts them in day care full time She can't afford to pay the excessive daycare bills and the child custody payments. but what is worse the kids are with their abusive father and my daughter has no visitation rights at. We had several several people to testify and statements from bishops teachers renters and other people but he didn't use one of them. He is a terrible lawyer don't use him. if you use this guy you will loose big time and he will help the other team win not you.

Response from Justin Caplin March 7, 2022
I always strive to provide the legal and personal guidance to my clients that will help them succeed in court and in their post-divorce life with their children. Sometimes people may not like my advice, sometimes they may not take my advice. The facts of every case require a deep and sensitive look at what is best in that situation, especially in cases involving protective orders. In reviewing protective orders and advising a course of action, I look at several factors, including 1) strength of evidence and likelihood of prevailing; 2) what is gained by the protective order; 3) duration of the orders within a protective order (for example, a typical child protective order against a parent remains in place for only 150 days); 4) whether there are alternatives that provide better outcomes or a longer duration of orders; 5) other factors depending on the type of protective order and the situation. I am not permitted to disclose confidential information about a particular case. However, this review is not accurate of results I’ve received during my involvement in any case. If you would like to discuss anything with me, please contact me at 435-674-6800.
