Pressured me into a bad agreement

1. I asked for joint physical custody from the beginning. He filed my response giving my ex sole physical custody. Caused a lot of drama during the process. 2. He pressured me into signing an agreement that I couldn't live with when I took time to do that calculations on my own. I relied on him maki...ng good calculations. When we equalized income for alimony we used my married tax status for that. My taxes went up $900 a month after. And now I'm going to have to pay like $6000 in the past. Ben's response: "Well I'm not a CPA." How has this never come up? This doesn't require a CPA to figure out.

I understand that divorce is a very difficult time, and that sometimes it's hard to recognize a good outcome when you didn't want to be divorced. 1. Your wife is a stay-at-home mother, and you ended up with 50/50 custody. 2. You had a ten year marriage and paid three years of alimony. As we discussed, we don't typically do complex tax analysis, but instead employ the same analysis the court uses to determine net income (25% reduction from gross) as set forth in Hansen v. Hansen case (325 P.3d 864 (Utah App. 2014)), which holds that “It was within the trial court’s discretion to employ the 25% tax rate and to equalize the parties’ monthly shortfalls in calculating alimony.” That was proper analysis and one the court usually uses. Sorry for all you're going through, and I wish you the best of luck going forward.

Relationship: Fellow lawyer in community

"Ben is a highly skilled mediator who takes a compassionate and intelligent approach to his mediations. He is also extremely patient and sensitive to the difficult issues involved in family law cases. He was able to resolve one of the most complex and emotional cases I have been involved in. He was willing to work into the late hours of the night making sure the stipulation was detailed and exact. I highly recommend mediating with Ben."
