Roy D Cole

I hired Roy on a Thur for Court on Monday, Secretary (Sherry) charged me $500. Court came and Roy was a no show. I called to get a refund and was told he would refund me $200. Why you ask only $200 out of $500!! Good question. Roy said....wait for it...."I actually had another hearing and I had it s...et up with a public defender to appear in my place so I did do some work on it". I could of set up a Public defender for free.

It has been over two years since I hired Roy Cole to represent me in my divorce and I am still trying to undo the mess he did! If anybody is even thinking about hiring Mr. Cole as a lawyer please notice he has been reprimanded from the Utah State Bar four times! Due to the limited space I have, I wi...ll only address the major problems I encountered. 1. He failed to file my affidavit for a temporary orders going through a divorce. I found out about it at the hearing when the opposing counsel told the commissioner that he failed to file the paperwork. However, I still received bills for time spent working on my affidavit 2. While in mediation, he actually left me to go pick up his children. I was unrepresented for a time. When the time came to sign the stipulation for the divorce decree, he did not read it and a critical error was made and missed. That was why I hired him, to review legal documents. His failure to review the final draft of the divorce decree resulted in my ex having more custody. He also refused to listen to me when i said my ex needed a time frame to refinance our joint loans. So now, a year and a half later I am still tied to my ex's debt. My new lawyer is still trying to get me financially separated from my ex. 3. He missed critical deadlines. He waited until after the 7 day time frame to file an objection to the typo in my divorce decree. 4. He has a high turn over rate with office staff. In the time period he was my attorney, he had four different paralegals. Many times, I would call and the paralegal didn't know what was going on. 5. I have requested numerous times for an itemized statement of my charges and I still haven't received it. I was treated rudely the last time I requested one by Roy Cole. I paid a lot of money to have Roy Cole not do what he was hired for and even more to have a different lawyer try to fix his mistakes.

I approached him in regards to a business case and I'll admit, I didn't have high hopes because they wanted $15k retainer upfront if they got the case and when I got there I was waiting around 40 mins past appointment time. But I understand things happen and if you're in demand things tend to fall b...ehind. Anyways, he was straightforward, addressed concerns and was honest that while he could help, he wouldn't be the best attorney for the case and that there was one he knew that specialized in the area I needed. It was a breath of fresh air to have someone be straightforward and honest instead of shooting rainbows and fairy tales up my backside that they could win the case just to get the case and start billing hours. While I didn't use him for this case I valued his integrity and would recommend him to anyone that could use his expertise.

I thought that when I first met him with everything he was telling me that I actually had a good attorney and that he was going to help me get what I deserve. Come to find out, he is very lazy about his work, he does NOT let his clients know about any paperwork that they need to respond to and he is ...highly unprofessional by talking about hitting his own kids and womens' breasts! You will have to do all the work!! When he shows up to court (which is a min before the time) he walks in and sits there on his laptop and doesn't pay attention (the judge has even had to say his name a couple of times). What is he doing? Playing around on facebook? He doesn't stand up for you. All he is there to do is to sit (not so pretty) and say NOTHING! He has also over charged me. I mean when he doesn't do anything then why would I pay? When I've asked him for a detailed bill he will go in and mumble a few things to himself and say "oh I'll fix that, don't worry". Again, he is very lazy, unprofessional, and an all around HORRIBLE Attorney! I will be going to the board and giving them in detail all the inappropriate things he would saY behind closed doors. I will never recommend him and I will tell everyone about my bad experience with ROY COLE.
