In October of 2022 I needed help with a police misconduct issue. And I attempted to contact Darwin via his website https://www.utahcriminallaw.net/salt-lake-city-police-misconduct-lawyers/ I provided my name, email, phone number, and a detailed description of my case and submit the info using his w...ebsite. To my disappointment a month had passed and I never received any reply to my email or phone. I next attempted in December to contact him by calling the local number (801) 758-2287. But after calling 4 times I kept running into the same problem, which was his secretary would answer the phone, and always told me he's not available because he's either busy with another client or left to court, stepped out etc. And every time she told me either Darwin or another lawyer would give me a call back as soon as they're available. But I never did receive any calls back. I next attempted to ask a family member to deliver a letter to Darwin and the secretary said he stepped out of the building and she will give him the letter with my contact info. After waiting another week there was no response from him by email or phone. I asked my father to try deliver the letter to him only. My father was lucky to find him early when his office first opened and explained some of my case and gave him my letter. Darwin told my dad he would call me at 2pm that same day. But after waiting from 2pm to 3pm, it was obvious I was no going to be receiving any call. I finally decided this is not worth the trouble, if this is how bad the communication is now, I would definitely not want to put up with it after hiring him. I

I regret hiring Mr. Overson. I felt as though he did not care about my case. There were times when he was going through the motions and the effort didnt seem to be there. He was always telling me he was going to do certain things and never did them. A bit of a procrastinator you could say. He was als...o very slow to respond to calls regarding my case. On February 20, 2020 I was in a ski/snowboarding collision at Park City Mountain Resort when I was blindsided by a ski instructor who was looking over his shoulder at his class and not where he was going. He hit me behind my right shoulder dislocating it and tearing my left MCL. Vail resorts took 2 w...eeks to send me a copy of my accident report which was essentially just a written account of what I told a Vail employee in the clinic after the accident. Vail made no apparent effort to determine the cause of the accident nor did they identify any corrective actions that they planned to take to keep this sort of thing from happening again. I contacted Darwin Overson and met with him in his office on March 13, 2020. After listening to my account of the collision he agreed to represent me. We both signed a contract with him pledging that his firm would devote its “full professional abilities” to my case in return for my full cooperation and payment. For the next 3 months I got nothing. I tried to reach Darwin multiple times to get an update on the status of my case by calling his office and his cell phone, leaving voice mails, leaving messages with his receptionist, leaving messages with his answering service, texting and emailing. He finally called me on April 23 for the first time (after I admonished him in a text for his lack of professionalism) saying that he was working on it but didn’t have all my medical records yet. On May 6, 2020 I emailed him requesting an update on the status of my case and he replied with the following statement, “Records requests have gone out and we are waiting for the medical records and bills. I anticipate records being in by the end of the month and I can’t imagine it taking long to review them and prepare the demand letter.” I never heard from him again. It is now a year later, March 13, 2021. Although I will likely never fully recover from my injuries, Darwin caused me more anxiety, frustration, and stress than the accident itself. To date I have seen no evidence that he produced one tangible work product and didn’t even have the courtesy to cancel the contract. Unfortunately I do not have the right to terminate the agreement myself per the contract - my fault for signing it.
