Biography
Chris Nicolaysen represents Coloradans who have been seriously injured in auto, motorcycle, trucking, pedestrian, and bicycle collisions, and the families of those killed by another's negligence. As CEO of Springs Law Group in Colorado Springs, he leads the firm's plaintiff personal‑injury practice across Colorado's Front Range.
His approach is preparation‑first. Every case is built from day one as if it will be tried — which is what gives clients leverage in negotiation, forces insurers to value claims honestly rather than nominally, and produces better outcomes whether a case ultimately settles or goes to verdict. He is direct with adversaries, candid with clients about what their cases are realistically worth, and willing to try a matter when the facts and the law support a verdict.
Over more than a decade of plaintiff practice, Chris and his team have recovered more than $40 million for clients who suffered shoulder injuries, spinal‑cord injuries, severe orthopedic trauma, and the loss of loved ones. He holds a Trial Skills Certificate from the National Institute for Trial Advocacy (NITA, 2014) and has completed NITA's Remote Deposition Skills program (2021).
A Colorado resident since 2005, Chris earned his Juris Doctor from the University of Denver Sturm College of Law in 2013 and his Bachelor of Arts from the University of Nevada, Las Vegas in 2001. During law school he clerked for the Honorable David L. Shakes of the Colorado 4th Judicial District. Admitted to the Colorado Bar in 2014, he has practiced exclusively in Colorado since: first at The Moller Law Group and The Gasper Law Group, then in solo practice as Nicolaysen Law before founding Springs Law Group in 2017. He is in active status with no record of discipline.
Chris is a member of the Colorado Bar Association, the El Paso County Bar Association, and the Colorado Trial Lawyers Association. He devotes time financial resources each year to local non-profit organizations like the Santa Walk and Run and the El Paso Canine Rescue.
Outside the firm, Chris lives in Colorado Springs with his wife Gretchen, who serves as one of the firm's Litigation Attorneys. He is the proud father of two daughters, Sidney and Megan and a proud grandfather of Scottie Layne.
