Carolyn M. Kelly

I hired her for my divorce to facilitate the process. It was not a terribly contentious divorce, but she acted like it was- as if my husband was hiding money or being devious. She was snarky in her responses to me via email and seemed irritated with me about how I wanted MY divorce to go. My divorce ...is final, but there is still one piece of the settlement pending. I found out my divorce decree was final after I emailed the courts and received the information that my divorce was finalized 3 days before. I did not receive my divorce decree. It was sent to Carolyn. I received it 1 month later, when i had to request it form her, which was too late to change my health insurance dependents. The IRS has very specific rules about this, which I would expect a divorce attorney to know. So, I will end up paying and additional $2500 this year due to not receiving timely information. She took zero responsibility for this other than letting me know I seemed upset. When I indicated that she should acknowledge her responsibility in costing me $2500, she terminated her contract with me. I find this very disappointing and not worth the money I paid.

I just finished arbitration for a fee dispute. It is unbelievable the stuff she came up with in order NOT to refund money she owed me as she did not complete both cases she was hired for. Any benefit gained from this attorney's legal knowledge is lost with the disorganization and lack of financial in...tegrity. Just so you know, she is an aggressive attorney, but be careful as that aggressiveness can be turned back on you. Worst experience I've ever had.

I interviewed several attorneys and even though Carolyn doesn't claim to be a "Criminal Defense Attorney" she is the one who showed the most confidence so I hired Ms. Kelly to represent me in two misdemeanor criminal cases. I paid her retainer and more as the cases progressed. My money was very well ...spent. She was relentless in my defense which ultimately led to both cases being dismissed. Opposing attorneys and the District Attorney especially may not like Ms. Kelly because she knows how to take them to task. I witnessed her interaction with several attorneys in the course of my defense all of whom were happy to consult with her and help me. I would hire her again and recommend her highly.

Ever since my divorce, I've had many challenges with my ex. Ms. Kelly was recommended to me by a paralegal who said she was the best attorney but not the most expensive one. Ms. Kelly has helped me navigate the laws, hearings and bureaucracy. From filing, through motions and mediation to agreements ...and orders - the results have been, without fail, exactly what I expected and very fair to both parties. She has practiced in Colorado Springs for a long time, is very knowledgeable, has a great understanding of judge's expectations and is highly effective. There are many cheaper lawyers and only a few more expensive ones. For my experience, Ms. Kelly's services are invaluable.

Makes promises at first meeting that she fails to keep at the end. Late for meetings, cancels meeting last minute even though you made time away from your job to meet with her. She does this often. Waits last minute too close to final court date to prepare final issues. Worst part...has me come t...wo months later after final court appearance, because I hadn't signed final papers, when I thought all was complete because I assumed she was a competent lawyer. I paid her a flat fee. She does as little as possible if you pay a flat fee; and I personally know other of her clients who paid her on a retainer and she milks them all she can. So beware...you get what you pay for. She offers flat fees based on your financial situation/hardship.
