James Wesley Hopkins

James Hopkins has been helping people fight against criminal charges since 2007.  He is the Owner and Managing Attorney of Hopkins Law LLC in Loveland, Colorado.

Born as the son of a protestant pastor on the upper peninsula of Michigan in 1977, James was raised in a conservative Christian home with his two sisters. His parents were serious gardeners and nature lovers and during James’ early years, the Hopkins’ home was on a farm. James attended grammar school, high school and college in Berrien Springs. He met his wife, Angela Canada, in high school and they married in 2000.

Following college, James worked as a social worker with troubled children and families at Riverwood Center in Benton Harbor, Michigan.

He was accepted into the College of Law at DePaul University in Chicago, Illinois. During his law school years, he worked at small litigation firms and as an administrative hearing prosecutor for the Chicago Board of Education. The Journal of Sports Law and Contemporary Problems selected him as a staff writer. Following graduation from law school, James applied to the bars of Colorado and Illinois and was accepted to both.

Pertinent to the role that James Hopkins plays in criminal defense and in juvenile defense is his solid background in social work. He has a remarkable appreciation for the complexities of human emotion, especially in trying circumstances. That understanding and first-hand experience with fraught people in anxious situations makes his advocacy for them empathetic, reassuring, and engaged.
