Diedre Wachbrit Braverman is the Managing Partner of Braverman Law Group in Boulder, Colorado. She works with high-net-worth individuals and families on asset protection and estate tax planning around concentrated and sudden wealth: equity compensation and pre- and post-IPO positions, large inheritances received outright or in trust, and portfolios built in real estate, public markets, and private companies. She is licensed in Colorado, California, and Wyoming, and much of her work is multi-state. She works alongside her clients' existing financial advisors, CPAs, and trustees rather than in place of them.
Her practice covers asset protection planning, including domestic asset protection trusts, spousal lifetime access trusts, and Wyoming close LLCs, along with revocable and irrevocable trusts, directed trusts, and situs and decanting questions. On the tax side she plans for estate, gift, generation-skipping transfer, and capital gains consequences together rather than in sequence.
She also maintains a national special needs practice. She co-founded the Academy of Special Needs Planners, a national organization of attorneys who include special needs planning in their practices, and has served as an expert witness in special needs trust and Medicaid eligibility litigation.
Before practicing law, Diedre spent three years as a Senior Associate at McKinsey & Company, advising some of the country's largest companies. That training still shapes how she plans: the tax and the downside get modeled before anything is drafted. Earlier she practiced at Sullivan & Cromwell and at Kirkland & Ellis.
Diedre is a graduate of Stanford Law School, where she was Chair of the Stanford Journal of Law, Business & Finance. She is a Phi Beta Kappa graduate of the University of California, Irvine, magna cum laude, first in her class of more than 800 students. She is admitted in Colorado, Wyoming, and California.
She served as Chair of the Tax & Estate Section of the Boulder County Bar Association from 2023 to 2026, and is a member of WealthCounsel.
Diedre has been quoted in Time magazine, The New York Times, and repeatedly in The Wall Street Journal. She co-authored Special Needs Trusts: Planning, Drafting, and Administration, published by Continuing Education of the Bar in California and referenced as a resource nationwide, and has written for Apartment Finance Today. Her current client book is The Estate and Asset Protection Playbook, available as a PDF on request from her office or through the firm's website. It supersedes her earlier guides: The Family Asset Protection Guide and The Parents' Guide to Protecting Great Kids.
She teaches continuing legal education on special needs trusts, spousal lifetime access trusts, and trust protector provisions, and has taught multi-day intensives to WealthCounsel member attorneys nationally.

Warm, Intelligent & Creative
My husband and I were worried about estate taxes and about making sure our kids get the money we're leaving them in a way that helps and doesn't hurt them if anything happens to us while they're still young. Diedre helped us choose a strategy that would minimize taxes but more important the money ...

A very serious medical emergency required that Diedre relocate to where her husband could care for her and supervise the hospital's care of her serious medical condition. While she has been under treatment for many months, some of her legal work has been put on hold. It appears that although she is n...

Understands Sophisticated Techniques & Truly Cares
We are fortunate enough to have what could become an estate-taxable estate. Attorney Braverman walked us through the various techniques we could choose to reduce or eliminate estate tax after both my spouse and I are gone, and our children inherit. She also understood the other end of the wealth spec...

Full service planning for our family's unique needs and goals
Diedre took the time to go beyond our initial assumptions and explained how we can benefit from strategies no one had explained to us before.
"I must disclose that I have already given Diedre my highest endorsement - I married her. But marriage aside, Diedre is among the most talented estate planning attorneys in the country. Diedre's national reputation is only surpassed by the level of care that she provides to her clients. She chose to practice estate planning and special needs planning law for personal reasons, and I believe that drives her passion for her work. I have met many of her clients and I attest first hand that they love her. I have co-counseled with Diedre on several matters and her legal and analytical skills always amaze me. Needless to say, she is my go to person when I am dealing with particularly complex issues in my own estate planning practice. More importantly, she would be that attorney even if she wasn't my wife. I whole heartedly endorse Diedre!"
"I have known Diedre for the past 12 years as a fellow member of Wealth Counsel and, more recently, the Southern California Institute. I've had the pleasure of attending one of her seminars on special needs planning as well. Diedre's work is top notch, and I can whole-heartedly endorse her."
"I heartily endorse this lawyer's work. Diedre is an exceptional attorney who stands head and shoulders above her colleagues. I have known Diedre since 2002 when we met as members of a national organization for estate planning attorneys. I initially served as one of Diedre's mentors, but she quickly honed her craft and proceeded to take her practice to a new level of client service, counseling, education and innovation. Diedre is one of the brightest and most ethical of attorneys I have had the good fortune to know. She has developed a caring, compassionate practice working with clients with minor children, and her expertise in special needs planning makes her the "go-to" lawyer for many of my colleagues. Diedre continually works to improve her knowledge and skills and usually sets the standard for other attorneys to follow. She is a board certified specialist, and even though she's a Stanford Law alumna, this Berkeley graduate could not recommend her more highly."
"I endorse this lawyer's work. I have known Diedre for several years through the Laureate in Wealth Strategies Program offered by the Southern California Institute. Diedre is an exceptionally bright estate planning attorney with a passion and commitment to protecting those with special needs. I have had an opportunity to collaborate with Diedre at the Southern California Institute - analyzing and testing high level estate planning issues, designing solutions and presenting them to clients. She is excellent."
