Do not use her

There are three primary reasons for not recommending her. First off, I had a horrible magistrate who made horrible decisions. Ms. Rivera would continually remind me of how it's not her/me, it's that every case involving this magistrate gets jacked up. However, what she somehow forgot to inform me(...or was ignorant of) was that in the state of Colorado, divorce cases involving minor children would allow either party to request the bypassing of the magistrate, straight to a judge. So, if every single experience with this magistrate was so bad, why did she not request to go straight to a judge? Second, she tried to inform me that I could not appeal any of the magistrates decisions until permanent orders. What she again neglected to inform me was that you can do a District Court Appeal after the magistrate signs off on Temporary Orders. To be fair, apparently, most lawyers don't like to do this because they know they'll have to work that that magistrate/judge sometime in the future. Third, my case may have been so jacked up because Ms. Rivera told me not to serve my ex with the divorce papers. Now I will admit Ms. Rivera was correct in her reasons not to. My ex retained a lawyer who placed himself under the jurisdiction of court, therefore putting the Automatic Injunction in effect. However, going back to Ms. Rivera's past history with this terrible magistrate, she should have had me play it safe and have had my ex served. In an attempt to save $50, I was stuck spending thousands of dollars to see my kids in Oklahoma where my ex fled because the magistrate decided that the automatic injunction didn't count. Last but not least, I am a combat veteran with an anxiety disorder. When I let Ms. Rivera know I wouldn't need her services, she made some smart ass comment about how I am probably just having a panic attack and needed medication. Or something along those lines. The only two positive things I can say about her is that I always got a copy of any court paperwork and that she was very good in court.
