Case dismissed

I hired Jim to handle a very complex case. He took the time to listen to my story and saw through the B.S that the district attorney was trying to present. Jim is willing to fight hard with you in every step of the process. He doesn’t get intimidated by the prosecution and will push back with authori...ty. If you are looking for an attorney to handle any situation you are in please call COLGAN LAW you won’t be disappointed!

The situation ended with a best-case scenario. Up front flat fee for representation. A huge plus.

James is a fine legal representative for criminal defense. Based upon his years of experience he will be able to tell you pretty much what you can expect at the outset. He will be honest with you about what you can expect as an outcome given the particulars of your unique circumstances. He charges a ...flat fee which is a big plus, as hourly billing from a trust fund, as many attorneys are fond of doing, can spiral out of control pretty quick. I paid up front and then was represented all the way up to trial and sentencing if appropriate. Whichever way the case goes, you're paid and covered for the duration. My case was dragged out almost 2 years, during which time I didn't have to worry about the state of my 'trust balance'. My case had some challenging aspects in the respect that my record contained some ugly marks from many years ago which made going to trial and winning the case a pretty slim prospect- he was honest and up-front about my odds of winning a 'not guilty' verdict. With this in mind he was able to win me what I consider to be a best-case scenario outcome in which I had the 3 charges I was faced with reduced down to 1 lesser charge. This was accomplished WITH the District Attorney not being willing to budge off of the original 3 charges. The DA had a very hard stance on plea bargaining in my case. Basically, not offering any reduction from the original charges all the way up to the weekend before trial. They offered a plea deal that was exactly like the original charges and penalties, the only difference being not having to go through a trial. Atty. Colgan went above and beyond the call of duty to achieve a much better outcome, in the last hours leading up to trial. It was a great relief. I would recommend him to represent you based upon the statements I have made in this review.

Outstanding lawyer

We hired Jim as our criminal attorney. Jim was very thorough and knowledgeable which gave us great confidence that we were in good hands. Jim was a bull dog and due to him willing to go to trial, the D.A. Dismissed the case! I highly recommend hiring Jim Colgan as he has a stellar reputation and the... D.A.’s fear him!

A Competent, Capable, and Compassionate Attorney, with a Good Sense of Humor

To say the least, from the very first interaction with the police detective, until the day the case was dismissed, I was incensed, outraged, and infuriated at the charges against me. After the first conversation with the police, I knew I was being treated unfairly, and contacted Jim via a referral f...rom a referral. Our first conversation was excellent. Jim listened intently while I ranted and raved in anger, and then- frankly- played the role of therapist (which I desperately needed at various points throughout my case) to start us off, by saying “This kind of stuff happens all the time. Just know you are not alone.” Over the eight months that my case endured, and throughout our numerous court appearances, Jim was able to keep me reasonably sane (not an easy thing to do for someone with my type A ‘controlling’ personality), while not losing his own rationality. Jim has a talent for knowing when to engage his clients and when to ‘back off,’ in order to keep the ‘temperature’ down. He also has a knack for being compassionate, and seeing the broader picture (i.e., how various outcomes can impact the life of his clients). My experience, though frustrating due to the accusations against me, was helped greatly by having Jim’s legal sensibility to lean on throughout the process. To be clear, Jim and I did not always agree on tactics throughout the case, and sometimes even had some heated interactions, but- I always felt like Jim cared about the personal impact that the entire ordeal was having on me. His sense of humor, personal stories, and inquiries about my past life experiences were even further evidence of his concern for my state of mental well-being. Having been a police officer, District Attorney, and private practice attorney, Jim has more than thirty years of experience in dealing with a wide variety of legal matters. Additionally, his available resources/contacts in the legal realm and supporting services is extensive, which was impressive and reassuring. I would undoubtedly refer friends, family, and/or associates to him, should future circumstances present the need for his services. Thanks, Jim.

Your case was a travesty of justice until the end when the system worked the way it was supposed to work. Your case is a case study on maintaining your right to be presumed innocent and fighting to the bitter end until the prosecution gave up. It was a distinct honor to represent you.
