I am an attorney in my own right, but I don't have any experience with employment law and my wife needed representation on the heels of a wrongful termination. Elwyn walked us through the process from filing an unemployment claim, to complaint, to settlement. He responded to our questions quickly and... I think he genuinely cared about my wife's well-being. Elwyn was a rock for me during my unemployment appeal after my former employer refused to pay out benefits after terminating my employment under false accusations. I had never had to work with an attorney before (nor had I ever been fired before), so needless to say, the entire process was highly anx...iety-ridden and stressful. Mr. Schaefer consulted with me merely a week or two before my appeal hearing and was more than willing to take my case. We reviewed my documentation and he coached me on how I should conduct myself during the procedure, which I found incredibly helpful. On the day of my hearing, my former employer chose not to appear in person and called in for the hearing with Elwyn, myself and the Hearing Officer. He knew my case backward and front and knew how to direct testimony to highlight the statements made by my former employer that contradicted statements made in the documents filed earlier. He also asked my witnesses all the right questions which emphasized the inconsistency with the formal termination documents. All in all, Elwyn was not only effective, but compassionate and I couldn't have represented myself the way he represented me. I found out about Elwyn's practice through a google search and without any recommendations- which is a little scary thinking back on it. However, I feel like I picked the best lawyer for my situation and wouldn't change anything about my decision and the journey we went through together.
