I hired Mr. Berken a year ago to handle my bankruptcy and I am finally getting around to writing about my experience. Before I hired Mr. Berken, I visited two other attorney's in the Denver area who advertised alot on television. I met with a paralegal at the first office. After asking me a series... of questions she handed me a fee agreement to sign and wanted a retainer before I left. I told her I wanted to think about it because it was a big decision for me and then she seemed to get angry that I wasted her time even though I was told on the phone that they offered a free consultation. At the second law firm; the person I met with was really nice, but I got this impression given the number of clients in the waiting room that it felt like being at the DMV, there were so many people there wasn't a place to sit. I passed on them. I made an appointment with Mr. Berken after a friend read about him in the paper. He was the lawyer for Tom Martino who was going through a high profile bankruptcy so I figured what the heck. My free consultation was with Mr. Berken and not with a paralegal like the other firms. Although he was interrupted frequently I didn't mind listening to him on the phone talk to a car lender. I was blown away how he handled the person on the phone. We creditors were calling me; they were the mean ones; I just learned who lenders are afraid of...Mr Berken!!! I hired him that day. There is a ton of paperwork to fill out and his office was a huge help explaining stuff to me. I knew I was going to lose my home since I was so behind on my payments, but I didn't realize I had an option to keep it. Mr. Berken went through the numbers with me and explained my options; it just didn't make sense as much as I wanted to try an keep my house to keep it. At the creditors meeting Mr. Berken explained what the trustee was going to ask and prepared me for what happens. During the wait, it seemed like every attorney in the courthouse stopped to talk with him about cases. I realized then I must have hired the best lawyer in the business if other lawyers are coming to him with questions. I'm back on my financial feet thanks to Mr. Berken. He got rid of all of my medical bills and credit card debt; I no longer hide my car from the repo man and his office helped me start establishing my credit again. I can't thank him and his office enough for all of their help and support; it was a scary process to go through.

This law firm was truly a blessing to me. I had a horrible experience with another law firm regarding my bankruptcy and Stephen Berken and his staff took over the mess from the other firm and filed the bankruptcy in accordance with the law....Stephen and Jennifer are awesome. They made me feel calm ...when I had a lot of anxiety over bankruptcy because of their knowledge and skills. They took time out of their busy day to talk to me and reassure me that I would be ok. I’ve been a successful lawyer in CO for 35 years. I trusted this guy and from the beginning of his “representation” of me, he was only interested in enriching himself. All of the promises that I just read here are sales pitches. After promising to take care of huge debt from a divorce, he pushed C...hapter 13. Could never actually answer why, but sold me by telling me that the majority of post-dissolution debt (my ex-wives lawyer fees, some part of the lump sum that was ordered, etc). Promised that I would not have to sell my premarital home, my car, or any other personal possessions. WRONG. after 12 months, there was no legitimate reason to file Chapter 13, until I saw in all of the subsequent paperwork, that they were joining with the creditors to put another $10,000 + debt on me without advising or presenting a fee agreement. He also violated the confidentiality of a client that he met with, didn’t hire him, but I know personally. On top of that, he was using his insider confidential attorney client provided information to to scoop in and profit off it. He tried to talk me into joing him, but not after how he saw him act without any ethics or discretion. Anyway, happy to speak with anyone with questions. In the meantime, I will try to respond to his Motion asking the Court to Order that I pay them over $25,000+ after they bailed off the case and left me twisting in the wind. GO ELSEWHERE. FIND A LAWYER THAT ACTUALLY CARES ABOUT YOIR WELL BEING,?AND NOT JUST HIS OWNBBB
