I am a Denver native. My family immigrated to the Denver area from Italy in the mid 1890's. I graduated from Denver North High school 4th in my class in 1975. I attended the University of Denver on an Honors Scholarship, graduating in 1979 in the upper 10% of my class, with a BA in Mass Communications
I took a three year hiatus after college, during which time I worked as a disc jockey at several area nightclubs, then at KTLK 1280 AM radio in Denver, and finally I was the Assignment Editor at Channel 9 News in Denver. I left Channel 9 to enter the University of Denver Law school in 1982. I received scholarships while attending law school, and graduated in June of 1985 in the upper 25% of my class. I passed the Colo bar on November 1, 1985.
During my first year as an attorney I worked for two law firms, then went out on my own on January 15, 1987. I have been a sole practitioner since then, mostly handling divorce/family law cases.
I have experienced a wide range of life experiences and occupations. During High school and college I was a Model A Ford mechanic. I still own a 1930 Model A that my dad bought when my mom was pregnant with me. I obtained a commercial rated Hot Air Balloon license in college and flew balloons for many years. I also flew on the Trapeze at the Denver YMCA for many years with my brother, who was a nationally rated gymnast.
I have raised 5 kids--two who were 3 and 5 when I married my ex-wife. She and I created my third; and I now have my 4th and 5th kids, who were also about 3 and 5 when I mearried my present wife, Melissa, who works at the Colorado Bar Association. All 5 of my kids (now aged 16 to 32) and I deeply love each other. There is no hint that they are not all from the same family. Raising kids has been the highlight of my life. I am extensively familiar with raising kids in mixed/broken families, which is why I work passionately to help my clients and their children navigate divorce and break-ups in a healthy manner, maximizing both parents' roles in their lives.
I am very lucky to have been blessed with such a great family and life, however I must say the practice of divorce law is very negative and taxing on one's soul. Thankfully, I am able to be somewhat crazy, outspoken, and fun-loving in my personal life--a major contrast from my professional life.
