James Stanton Margulis

Hired Jim in 2018 to assist with parenting time (custody) and decision rights for my stepson. As part of the proceedings, we had to work with a court-ordered, neutral third-party who interviewed and compiled a report of both sides' accounts, etc. These reports should have been thoroughly reviewed bef...ore a scheduled hearing and our strategy should have been rooted in a full understanding of the case, its history, and these reports (with prepared corrections, counters, arguments, and ideas). Instead, Jim seemed to half-way review these documents and basically relied on the other party's attorney not looking at the reports either and being ill-prepared as his strategy. Instead, the other party's attorney dug into the reports and was well prepared to fight for the opposing party. We were left in a bad place regarding our case. Being over $30K in with Jim and, subsequent to this poor display, being left to have to pay even more money for him to do the job reactively that he should have done proactively, we cut our losses and were effectively set back in our fight for more parenting time and decision rights. Jim was not as strategic and focused as he presented during the consultation. When we expressed frustration and concern to him, he came off arrogant and apathetic. We complained about him to the managing partner of the firm he used to be with (Feldmann Nagel...), with no response or care from them either. Very disappointing and a huge waste of money. Leaving this review because there are only 5-star ratings on here, which seem contrived considering my experience and Jim's license suspension in Colorado. I don't want others to be duped like I was.

I hired James Margulis after fleeing with my children from California to get out of an abusive marriage. Mr. Margulis immediately knew what we needed to do to ensure my husband was unable to come and take the children from me. Within 24 hours he had filed all needed paperwork and I was on my way to... having temporary custody. After a Colorado judge approved temporary custody, Mr. Margulis then went on to help me keep the restraining order against my husband in place. He was phenomenal in court, straight to the facts with excellent communication skills. Anytime I needed him, he was available on his cell phone immediately. He clearly answered all my questions in a kind, straight forward manner. He was honest on fees. Mr. Margulis has a compassionate heart along with the fight of a lion. I trust this man.

Jim and his associates are thorough, brilliant, and fought ferociously on my family's behalf. I both consulted and hired this team and I could NOT have been more pleasantly surprised! They metaphorically held my hand through a very difficult, very tumultuous time. I felt, and feel, so safe and inform...ed with them. Jim has always treated me with the utmost respect and dignity. He is an artist with his words and legal knowledge, and I feel that every dime we paid was worth it's weight in gold. I felt like I was a family friend to this firm, rather than a client. Jim Margulis is a personal hero of mine and my loyalty to him and his associates will remain unwavering because of his dazzling service. TRUST this man and this firm and they will not let you down!!
