John Collins is an associate attorney practicing in the Litigation, Labor & Employment, Education, and Construction Law practice groups. He represents employers before various administrative agencies and is licensed in both Texas and New Mexico.
In the area of labor and employment law, Mr. Collins has defended employers against claims arising under Title VII, the Americans with Disabilities Amendments Act, the Family Medical Leave Act, Chapter 21 of the Texas Labor Code, and the New Mexico Human Rights Act. Mr. Collins has represented employers in both state and federal court, as well as before various administrative agencies, including the Texas Workforce Commission, the Texas Department of Insurance, the New Mexico Human Right Bureau, the New Mexico Workers’ Compensation Administration, the National Labor Relations Board, the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission, and the Texas Education Agency. In addition, Mr. Collins regularly provides advice and training to employers to ensure compliance with state and federal law. In the areas of insurance and commercial litigation, Mr. Collins has experience representing clients in lawsuits involving a variety of claims, including wrongful death, negligence, products liability, deceptive trade practices, premises liability, and civil rights claims under 42 U.S.C. § 1983.
Prior to joining ScottHulse, Mr. Collins earned his Doctor of Jurisprudence degree, cum laude, from Baylor Law School, where he was a member of Baylor Law Review and the Baylor Barrister Society. While in law school, Mr. Collins published an article in the area of labor and employment law that received an award from the State Bar of Texas Labor and Employment Law Section. Mr. Collins was also a quarterfinalist in the Strasburger and Price Moot Court Competition, where he was named one of the competition’s top speakers.
Before attending law school, Mr. Collins earned Bachelor of Arts degrees, summa cum laude, in History and English from Texas A&M University. At Texas A&M, Mr. Collins was inducted into the Phi Beta Kappa honor society.
Mr. Collins is a member of several professional organizations, including the El Paso Bar Association and the El Paso Young Lawyers Association.
