Board Certified in Family Law by the Texas Board of Legal Specialization in 2010, James W. Evans or “Jimmy”, has been in practice for 16 years. Mr. Evans is also a lifetime member of the Texas Academy of Family Law, a Lifetime Member of the Texas Family Law Foundation. Mr. Evans is a member of the Family Section of the Travis County Bar and the State Bar of Texas and has been admitted to the U.S. District Court for the Western District of . Evans graduated law school at Texas Wesleyan University in just over 2 ½ years in 1994.

After becoming licensed in May 1995, worked as an assistant criminal district attorney with the Tarrant County District Attorney’s Office. During this time, Mr. Evans prosecuted such crimes as domestic violence, protective orders, family violence, sex crimes against children, and other felony and misdemeanor crimes for nearly 5 years. During this time, Mr. Evans spent significant time working with children and protecting them against the District Attorney’s Office, Mr. Evans was nicknamed “scrapper” for his scrappy litigation style. Thereafter, Mr. Evans worked in commercial litigation with a private firm until becoming a father 6 years ago. Since that time, Mr. Evans focused his practice exclusively in the area of family law.

During Mr. Evans’ 18 years of practice, he has obtained extensive court room experience and has over 100 jury trials to his credit. Mr. Evans has successfully mediated many cases and is trained in collaborative law.

In 2010, Mr. Evans completed the requirements and has been recognized by the Texas Board of Legal Specialization and was honored to become board certified in Family Law.

Awesome choice

I went to Jimmy Evans as my attorney and what evolved into a custody case because he had come highly recommended by a parenting group. The recommendation was dead on. Jimmy listened to what I had to say and took copious notes. His staff was always respectful and kind, and I found his paralegal to... be extraordinarily detail oriented, a major asset in my case. The outcome was even better than I had hoped. Jimmy got more support than expected, repayment for overpayment of insurance premiums (the judge gave us even more than we requested), and substantial attorney’s fees. Perhaps more important, Jimmy persuaded the judge and to ordered measures, such as a parent facilitator, to thwart the conflict that had afflicted my relationship with my son’s father. This was all accomplished even though the case was tried under all the restrictions imposed by the corona virus pandemic quarantine. I would heartily recommend Jimmy and his team. That was the best advice I got, and I’m passing it on to you.

Great experience

This is the second time I hired Jimmy. He is experienced, thorough, and always has the clients best interests at heart. Jimmy explained all of my options to me and I was able to pick the best one. He is always available, which is very rare in this profession. I have received many calls after hours to... answer questions I might have. I feel he’s the best family attorney in the Austin area.

Agreed divorce case

Mr. Evans was helpful in negotiating documents with opposing counsel for my agreed divorce case. He was generally very responsive, looked out for my best interests throughout the process, and took the time to explain anything I had questions about.

Compassionate and concise

I am so grateful to Jimmy Evans and Evans Family Law Group! They guided me through my divorce and child custody with compassion and efficiency. Special revisions were handled very thoroughly. "I endorse this lawyer without equivocation. Jimmy has many qualities that distinguish him as a fine family law/divorce attorney. That being said, three jump to mind immediately. First, Jimmy is a man of his word. In a field that is often, by its nature, rife with anxiety, fear, and frustration, being able to trust another attorney's word has a tremendous impact on a client's ability to manage their emotions, the attorney' ability to remain focused on the legal issues, and finally, the overall cost of the suit. Secondly, Jimmy is reasonable, ever conducting "cost benefit analyses" of courses of action in suit and whether those courses of action lead to the best results with the least damage.
