Extremely Unprofessional

I was in a car accident in early January 2015 where the other party admitted 100% fault. I spoke with and signed an agreement with Edward Hensley a few weeks later. Over the course of the next 10 months the following things happened: 1. I was never contacted by the firm for updates on my case. I ...always had to call them and every time, I was told they were "still waiting" on forms from my medical providers. I finished my primary treatment in May 2015 (though I have residual injuries), at which point any competent lawyer should have begun moving the case along. 2. My hospital bill from January 6 went to collections, which I found out as I was attempting to obtain a mortgage in late 2015. The firm told me on the phone every time I called that they had been requesting and waiting for the hospital to release the records, but the only documentation in my file showed that they did not request the records until October 27 - nearly 10 months after the accident! 3. They switched my case to Deborah Hensley without informing me. I did not know that my case had been switched to Deborah until I finally decided to switch attorneys. 4. Even though they did almost no discernible work on my case (as evidenced by the files they turned over to me), they are attempting to hold a lien on my case so that I cannot move forward with another attorney. Deborah Hensley requested on November 2 that any new attorney contact her. I have had a new firm attempting to contact her every few days since November 5, and I have contacted them myself 3 times. They have refused to return any calls for 3 weeks so my case is now stuck. I will be filing a grievance with the State Bar Association of Texas for incompetent counsel and refusal to maintain contact.

Avvo Rating

Our Rating is calculated using information the lawyer has included on their profile in addition to the information we collect from state bar associations and other organizations that license legal professionals. Attorneys who claim their profiles and provide Avvo with more information tend to have a higher rating than those who do not.

What determines Avvo Rating?
  • Experience & background Years licensed, work experience, education
  • Legal community recognition Peer endorsements, associations, awards
  • Legal thought leadership Publications, speaking engagements
  • Discipline Disciplinary information may not be comprehensive, or updated. We recommend that you always check a lawyer's disciplinary status with their respective state bar association before hiring them.
