Don’t recommend his terrible attorney

I hired Lenore Shefman to represent me in a civil lawsuit as a Defendant. After payment of a retainer, this attorney did zero work on my case, quite literally. For example: She never filed a letter to represent with the court. Ever. She did, however, make some limited contact with opp...osing counsel, and as a result of that contact, the opposing counsel sent Shefman numerous filings and time sensitive legal documents, all of which Shefman completely ignored. It got so bad that the opposing counsel contacted me directly to inquire if I was actually represented, and advised me personally of a scheduled hearing on the matter. I showed up at the hearing and Shefman was a no-show. The judge asked me if I was represented because Shefman had filed nothing with the court saying so. The judge thought I was pro se. I requested and received a continuance so that I could find more suitable counsel. After the hearing no-show, I made repeated attempts to contact Shefman. She answered no phone calls, retuned no voice mails, and answered no emails. I requested a refund of my retainer in these numerous messages. I ended up filing a complaint with the Texas State Bar, for help in soliciting Shefman for the rightful refund. I explained that Shefman appeared to have rendered zero legal services. Only as a result of the complaint, weeks later, did I receive a 50% partial refund of my retainer via a personal check from Shefman. It is unclear to me why Shefman kept the other 50%. At some point after I received the partial refund from Shefman, Shefman sent me a nasty email complaining of my complaint to the Texas State Bar, and in this email she threatened legal action against me if I was to ever leave on online complaint about her, such as on Avvo. Within this same email she also advised me that I did not have attorney-client privilege. I was clueless on what prompted such an email. I would obviously not recommend Lenore Shefman to anyone at all.

Beyond grateful to Lenore

I cannot say enough good things about my lawyer, Lenore Shefman. Lenore helped me through a very difficult personal situation through tireless dedication and effort on my behalf. She is knowledgeable, thorough, and more than competent at what she does, which lifted a huge weight off my shoulders. I c...annot thank her enough for it. Even as she is so thorough and diligent, her humorous personality makes her a very an easy person to talk to, and it is a pleasure to speak with her. I am so grateful that I had Lenore and her legal team working on my case, she afforded me more reparation than I would have ever even thought possible. I can’t thank her enough for everything she has done for me and my partner.

Not Bad..

Mandissa, Lenore's paralegal read my case thoroughly and kept in fairly good contact. She did a great job in understanding my case. On the flip side, I spent two months of time without the place I was suing even knowing I was suing them. Documents were apparently requested, a notice of more time requ...ested was sent to Shefmans office and ultimately the documents never arrived nor demanded. Asked for a valuation of the case and never received one. Seemed energetic and "on the ball" in the beginning, however once the case became complicated I was referred to another attorney with no actual referral. Expected a bit more from this firm.

I believe my paralegal took your case for review. Our firm did not specialize and does not specialize in civil rights claims. Though you had some interesting issues to be addressed and Mandissa, a licensed attorney wanted to review them for you, I believe after a thorough review you were referred to an appropriate firm for the handling of your case. Hopefully that worked out for you.

Good Settlement Lawyer

I was grateful Lenore took my case, it seemed like a very minimal dollar margin with a low probability of an additional $100,000 from a bike accident insurance carrier. I had to fire a previous attorney who complained how much work he'd have for only $5,000 in return for himself. Another law firm s...at on the case for a month without letting me know they didn't take it. So Lenore rescued a very bad situation in her offer to negotiate a settlement with the City of San Francisco of $255,000 in hospital fees. In three months after taking the case, the insurance money came through and Lenore reduced the $255,000 bills by about 65% and settled the case. I was very pleased and appreciate her work in the midst of a doom and gloom outlook other lawyers had perceived.

"Lenore is hands down a fighter for her clients. She flushes everything out of her cases and in certain circumstances will go beyond what the insurance policies cover. Most lawyers will only take the insurance money and quit. Not Lenore, she's a fighter and goes the distance. Her recent trial is a clear indicator that Lenore will get what is fair for all and will fight the insurance beast until they make it right. Lenore demands respect from the insurance industry and is why she does so well for her clients. All I got to say is great job and keep up the fight!"
