Better than expected!

I first met Tyler, and his staff, the summer of 2015. My ex filed for custody of our son, and he was over $19,000 behind in child support. My ex has always been very aggressive and intimidating. Tyler, and those in his office, took care of everything for me. I felt comfortable every step of the w...ay. If there was something that I didn't understand, things were explained and my nervousness was put to ease. I have spoken to other attorneys before, and never felt like they were really on my team, until now. Tyler was aggressive, yet fair. I appreciated that he was honest with me about the case. (If there was something I wanted, or didn't want, he never gave me false hope.). By the end of things, I ended up winning my case, and walked away with more than I expected. I am more than pleased with the work done by Tyler, Jessie, and Geoff. I will forever be greatful!!

Steer Clear

I fully realize Tyler will respond saying he cannot respond to the details of the case, but it needs to be shared how negligent Jessica Houghtby was during our hearing and how Tyler Pennington would not own up to any of this negligence and mismanagement. Daniela Ibarra was our attorney initially, but... she had a medical emergency that deemed her unavailable for an unknown amount of time. Jessi stepped in with our understanding that she would be adequately brought up to speed on all the details of our family law case. Sadly, she came into the court room, late, rushed, and was writing down questions just before the judge entered the room. It was blatantly obvious how unprepared she was. There was no preparation whatsoever is terms of questions that would be asked, strategy, etc. I didn’t even know the format of the hearing until I was there. After speaking with a new attorney, I’ve learned how problematic and irresponsible this actually was/is. This lack of preparedness has deeply impacted our family, not to mention the thousands of dollars spent, heartache, and children that cannot comprehend this outcome. Tyler and Daniela told us throughout this entire process that we were good, our case was strong, we just need to get in front of the judge. It quickly turned to what we can do next (in other words, how can they keep billing us for more legal work). I write this in hopes that it’ll save others from this outcome, to at least ask all the right questions.

As indicated in this review, due to rules of confidentiality we are unable to fully respond to the review in detail. I will say that we as a firm value our clients and their input. Additionally, family law cases are very fact and case specific and we never make any guarantees in our discussions with clients and in fact our contracts specifically mention that there are no guarantees. We as a firm handled this situation the best we could under the circumstances and I stand by our decisions. We attempted to remedy the concerns and feel that we addressed this the best way we could. Overall our clients are very pleased with the work we do and we don't profess to make everyone happy 100% of the time, as that is impossible in a business such as this.

Avvo Rating

Our Rating is calculated using information the lawyer has included on their profile in addition to the information we collect from state bar associations and other organizations that license legal professionals. Attorneys who claim their profiles and provide Avvo with more information tend to have a higher rating than those who do not.

What determines Avvo Rating?
  • Experience & background Years licensed, work experience, education
  • Legal community recognition Peer endorsements, associations, awards
  • Legal thought leadership Publications, speaking engagements
  • Discipline Disciplinary information may not be comprehensive, or updated. We recommend that you always check a lawyer's disciplinary status with their respective state bar association before hiring them.
