Incompetent

Aged, slow and unable to keep up with opposing counsel. Lost my case because I went with this guy. Learned a lesson about the saying you get what you pay for.

4 Retainers & 2 Years Later..

At first, I had high expectations that Mr. Kay would and could jog me through the divorce process as a ‘turn and burn’. 1: He absolutely forgot to file for my Temp Orders hearing, so months passed for nothing. 2: When I did actually get to talk to him, vs emailing his secretary, he was consistently ...arrogant and interrupted me- he even yelled at me a time or two. 3: During TO hearing, he even irritated the judge! 4: Ultimately, I had to pay FOUR retainer fees total, which was over $14k (I am still paying back loans for). No ‘turn and burn’ case for me- over 2 years to finish. I was too invested to switch counsel though. The only one who got me what I wanted & deserved, was God with life’s plans. = Full custody of my kid(s). However, Mr Kay and my ex got a LOT of my money, and neither one deserved that.

Dropped the ball

Mr. K was opposing counsel for my modification case. He never filed the paperwork for our hearing and a year later we had to go back and try again, Only to have the hearing postponed once again because Mr. Kay didn’t know we were to be in court in person. Much of my time and money was wasted due to m...istakes on his part. I’m glad I wasn’t paying him. I would be even more furious.

Don’t be fooled by your charming consultation

Please, for your sake, do not hire this lawyer. He was initially charming and made us big promises. He delivered on none of them. He wouldn’t review evidence. He wouldn’t respond to us even when the opposing counsel was making demands of us or scaring us with threats to go back to court. He didn’t ke...ep us updated on our retainer like he is supposed to. He would just hit us with huge bills without explanation. He was rude to us and clearly stopped caring once he was paid. He will not speak to you. He will not fight for you. He just acts like you don’t exist once he has been paid. It was a horrible experience. He won’t answer calls or emails. Yet somehow you will be charged for all his “work.” You will have no idea what’s going on. He wouldn’t fight for anything and kept just giving the other side what they wanted. I think hiring him destroyed our case. I have never see a lawyer who cares so little about his clients. He will not listen to you or communicate with you. He isn’t interested in fighting for you. Another thing, I would have to ask other lawyers to answer my questions. My lawyer was so disinterested and non-resposive I would have to pay or seek out other lawyers through friends who would answer my questions. Alfred caused me considerable stress during an already stressful time.

The worst experience received from a lawyer

We reached out to this lawyer in the morning and his secretary requested 1 document from us that was a temporary order. The issue was regarding a custody matter and it was an emergency as the primary parent was admitted to the mental hospital and we needed emergency protective orders and revocation o...f a temporary order. We requested to meet with the lawyer right away and was advised he will be available in 30 minutes, the office was 20 miles away so we were on our way. When we got there his secretary scolded us because she meant available for a call and not to meet in person, we advised her that it is ok and we can talk to him in the car. He called and said that he is reviewing one document and will call back. We called him right back and told him that he does not have all the paperwork and does not know what we needed. I was with my uncle and since he speaks English as a second language, I was assisting. Alfred kept on saying "I only speak to one person" he kept on cutting my uncle off. My uncle told him "my ex", Alfred cut him off and said "sir, you are not divorced!", my uncle stated that he was divorced, Alfred cut him off again and said "YOU ARE NOT MARRIED, I DO NOT HAVE THE FINAL DIVORCE DECREE". We told him that is why we want to tell you what the issue is, he cut us off again. He would not listen to the issue and could not care less about the situation. I do not recommend this person to anyone. He wasted a whole day of our time and did not even assist. His attitude was one that did not want to help and one that did not care for the 5 and 11 year old that were in danger. Stay away.

Relationship: Opposing Counsel on matter

"I had the pleasure of serving as opposing counsel to Mr. Kay during a divorce case. The clients were very emotional and assets being divided were relatively high. This is usually a recipe for lengthy and expensive cases. Thanks to our mutual efforts, we were able to work out a great conclusion for our clients that kept much of their estate in tact without the need to pay high attorney fees. Mr. Kay was courteous and respectful to everyone, even when we didn't see eye to eye. I was so impressed with him that I have stayed in contact since that case and consider him an outstanding member of the Austin and Georgetown Legal Profession. I know to stay on my guard when he's the opposing attorney, but he is is very efficient and effective for his clients."
