Probate 30%

Probate includes probating wills and estates of people who died without wills, as well as guardianships and affidavits of heirship to protect the chain of title to real estate. A new area in Texas is called the Small Estate Affidavit, which can save significant money for those estates that qualify for this process.

Made Estate Planning Easier to Understand

My husband and I decided it was time to update our wills and sought out an attorney. We found this law firm and are quite happy we did. They had us fill out forms, then email them to us to review. We had many questions and Mr. Jacobson explained everything clearly. Sometimes, more than once. He exp...lained our option on how to set our wills up. When it came to signing them, the process was clear and the staff made a difficult experience easier.

Business Owner

Professional, Very Efficient, Very thorough. Pretty well sums it up. My wife and I had non traditional wills and a trust to create. Mr Jacobson and his staff couldn't have been more thorough and made what seemed to be a complex task easy to understand. I plan on using their service for other work...

Unfriendly & Unprofessional

Be wary of this attorney. Mr. Jacobson's secretary is polite; however, Mr. Jacobson is not. Contrary to the Google review written by Todd Butler, which Mr. Jacobson proudly displays on his website under "A HEART FOR MILITARY FAMILIES," I, as the spouse of a disabled veteran, did not feel at home as s...oon as he spoke to me over the phone. Mr. Jacobson could not remember the details of my case, even though I had e-mailed him two weeks prior explaining my situation (i.e., a simple straightforward guardianship renewal). During our recorded phone call, I politely stated my name and reminded him about our scheduled appointment. He replied, "Okay???" After a moment of silence, he continued, "And...you're, uh...talk to me about what we're talking about!" I answered, and then in an impatient and annoyed tone, he ordered, "Okay. Tell me what the situation is!" I explained that my husband is disabled, and then in an even more sharp and condescending tone, he said in an increasingly raised voice, "DISABLED HOOOWWWWW???" I answered, and he replied in an unhelpful patronizing tone, "Okay...WHY are you just NOW looking for a guardianship for him?" I politely corrected him, reminding him again that I am seeking a new attorney to help me renew my guardianship. Mr. Jacobson scoffed loudly, "Then what are you needing from me..." Mr. Jacobson appears to be the type of lawyer who makes things harder then they need to be. That's a red flag, in my opinion. My first impression: Mr. Jacobson is rude, impatient, unprofessional, disorganized, scatterbrained, and condescending. Rather than continue tolerating his abuse over the phone, I hung up on him.

We never want to hear that an interaction with our firm was not satisfactory to a client or potential client. This was a very frustrating call. My standard practice when speaking for the first time with potential new clients, regardless whether I received information on the matter beforehand, is to start with some version of, "So what can I do for you?" That normally ensures that we get off on the right foot and are talking about the same issue. Despite many attempts, I was unable to pull information out of this caller that would help me determine whether I could assist her with her husband's guardianship and whether our firm was a fit for her. I will admit that the longer the call went on, the more frustrated I became; however, I have never raised my voice at a client or potential client and did not in this case. It was when I asked her why she wasn't using the attorney she had apparently been using for years in this guardianship that she hung up. Most lawyers ask this question when the caller states an attorney was involved previously, as this is a red flag that the person may be a difficult client.

What determines Avvo Rating?
  • Experience & background Years licensed, work experience, education
  • Legal community recognition Peer endorsements, associations, awards
