Think twice before hiring a perpetually combative lawyer if you are divorcing an abusive spouse.

Aggressively attacked me as though she was opposing counsel over everything I tried to share about my situation in an abusive marriage , then dropped off the face of the earth for two months during my divorce, not responding to emails. I actually checked obituaries wondering if she had died. When I ...retained new counsel, because of the lack of response from her, she first stonewalled and subsequently insulted me and my new representation in emails, when my new attorney was attempting to confirm they had my complete file. Ignoring that ethically she had a duty not to harm my case. This lawyer is absolutely not for people who are in an abusive marriage and traumatized. I felt attacked and not at all like I had an advocate in my corner.

This is just not true and makes me question whether your review is on the wrong attorney page. Every client has my cell phone number and that is 100% how we communicate when not by email. I am very responsive to my emails, almost to an obsession. Since you posted anonymously I don't even know if you are an actual client of mine or if you are opposing party just harassing me. I do not stonewall cases. Once I close it out, which is immediately upon my withdrawal as counsel or you retain new counsel I immediately send you a final invoice and request for payment of fees, if any owed, and I email the client's file to the client or to the client's new attorney. It is your responsibility to get your file over to the new attorney, especially if a new attorney has not been retained. It takes a lot of work getting you the file so I do not repeat the work just because someone who comes onto the case later asks for a copy. I will refer them back to the client. It's important to note that I copy my clients on almost every email I send out regarding their case and I put the client's email in the efiling system so the client gets noticed exactly at the same time as I do for everything filed with the Court. So I actually go ABOVE AND BEYOND to keep clients in the loop. If we had any type of conflict as attorney and client then I would likely be very happy someone else took over the case and would cooperate to the fullest in transitioning. FYI... lawyers are my colleagues that I continue to work with over the course of my career. We do not take cases personally but we will discuss the facts and status of the case. I am usually the first to reach out to new counsel to update them so everyone has a smooth transition. I am the lawyer other lawyers send difficult cases/clients to and I am quite successful at it. But I will say this.... I am a lawyer and not a psychologist. If you are looking for someone to coddle you emotionally then I always advise it's cheaper to hire a therapist than to pay my hourly rate. I am here to identify legal issues and problem solve, so if you are sitting in my office discussing facts then be aware that I am looking for solutions. This is why people hire me. You want a bulldog? I am a bulldog.

No! Read this at length

I do NOT recommend this woman. Particularly at a vulnerable moment in your life. Kriebel was friendly when I first spoke with her. The very moment I retained her, her demeanor drastically changed. I have never been treated with so much contempt and condescension--e.g., she told me concerns were noth...ing compared to some other cases, and that I should stop watching Law and Order. She bragged about how she bankrupted her now (ex-husband) in her divorce with him, and got sole custody of her son. It was so nasty, so sudden, and so inappropriate, I was in shock/confused. Her conduct and poor professional boundaries (read some of the other reviews on this) raised obvious concerns so after contemplating I sent an email requesting to terminate services. I only spoke with less than 30 minutes after retaining her. I never stepped foot in her office. I never stepped foot in a courtroom. I never stepped foot in a mediation office. Yet Ms. Kriebel kept the entirety of the $5000.00 retainer. I'm lodging grievance with the bar.

First of all, I have two children who are 30 and 25 years old. If I discuss my own personal legal battles it is to reassure the client that I empathize and understand the anxiety, stress and frustration that you are experiencing. Since I have been through a divorce and custody battle, I learned it from both the client's and attorney's perspective. Second, I keep track of my time. If you did not receive your $5000 back then the time was accounted for. What clients need to understand is that most of the legal work occurs outside of the courtroom. I have to draft and efile all the pleadings, motions and orders. There is discovery which can cost thousands and then document review. We have mediation which is usually 8 hours. Then finally update discovery, trial preparation and then trial, if you did not settle in mediation. I represent clients, particularly military, who live all over the world. They also never step foot in my office. Thanks to Covid, lawyers went to virtual and electronic communications and document exchange by email, google drive or some other cloud based service. As far as Law and Order, yes, Court is not like Law and Order. FYI, lawyers also hate ChatGPT. It gets it wrong all the time so please don't come to my office and say "well ChatGPT said...... after I give you legal advice. I have 22 years of real courtroom experience with the judges who sit on the bench. ChatGPT only has access to the laws but it doesn't have a clue as to how an individual judge will see your case. That's what you pay me for... my knowledge of the judges and system and the law. As far as the grievance, since you posted anonymously I cannot say if you ever filed your grievance. But I can say I do not have any pending and I am in good standing with the bar. I welcome anyone to check me out at the State Bar of Texas website where you can see who has been disciplined. I have not.

Keep Looking!

I hired Ms. Kriebel for, in her words, "a simple annulment"!. Married for 6 months, no property, no kids. On our first meeting she ran in 30 minutes late stating she had a doctors appointment with her daughter. She talks about "family comes first", believe it because you come 3rd on her list of oblig...ations, second is her soon to be husband! The first thing that she said was "you realize your wedding rings are yours". She continued to examine my jewelry and offered me to consult her before I sold them which I had no intention to do. I have been in contact with her other clients that have given BAD REVIEWS! Believe them because if you notice, her reply is always the same "you could have found another attorney". We all put our trust in HER!! I asked several times for a detailed invoice for her services and she could not produce (just like her other BAD REVIEW clients). Don't believe the "trust fund" that she has on her website, when you give her your money, that is the last you will see of it. After reading her replies to bad reviews it's the same story, "you could have found another lawyer". Well she already had my money! I could not afford to get another one. To this day, I still have not received a detailed invoice. The last time I texted her (August 23, 2017) for my invoice. I was interrupting her dinner and I was "inconsiderate and unappreciative", really!!! She has $2500 of my hard earned money! She took advantage of me and obviously a lot of other people. I'm sure she will have a come back to my negative post but take your best shot, you know, hopefully, what you did to me was wrong! This "simple annulment" took more than 45 days and in the process caught her in a lie, just to extend the process to keep my money. Yes, I texted her during my annulment journey but her replies to me was "call the police" which I did but your advice was incorrect! Then with her being an abused victim (stated in your reply to one of your past clients), her advice to me was "deal with it" when I was being verbally, emotionally and physically abused. I needed help and she offered NOTHING! SHE told me to text her anytime! I will continue posting negative reviews just like Monica Noyes Maryland! My grievance will also be filed with the State Bar of Texas.

I got your annulment done very quickly and professionally. I went above and beyond in your simple case and finished within 45 days. Your Ex's itemized bill was twice that of yours and I did all the drafting in this case. Sometimes people do not realize the amount of work a lawyer does to get your case done but I would be more than happy to discuss the issues and concerns you have. Thank you.

Horrible Attorney, do not communicate or respond to text, email or phone calls

She is the worst lawyer ever (unless you have a very simple case). Mine was not simple I told her from the beginning that the father was going to make this difficult and she assured me that she wasn't worried and that I shouldn't be either. He stole my identity, had me thrown in jail, bad mouthed me ...to my children and a lot more. She never did anything. We never met and discussed how we were going to handle the pretrial. She didn't even show up for court and had the opposing attorney put her on speaker in front of the judge and asked for a short "recess" and the judge told her you have to be here in order to ask for a recess. Then when she did show up later she let the opposing party hammer me. They brought up stuff from when I was a minor and the only thing she did was every once in a while stand up and say "objection" and when the judge asked her what she was objecting she couldn't even think of the words. In the end they made me look like a horrible mother and the only reason I kept my kids wasn't because of anything she did it was for the obvious reason; if the father was so concerned he wouldn't have waited 5 months to say something and the fact that the judge spoke to my son and he told them that he wanted to stay with me and the allegations were untrue. At the end she told me "don't worry, this was just the "pretrial" the real deal is when we go to the actual trial". Then when I later asked her about it she said that that was the judges final decision and it couldn't be changed. SHE IS ONLY IN IT FOR THE MONEY. You want proof....after I wasn't satisfied with the fact she didn't do her job I looked for a different attorney. I asked for an itemized statement from day one and she never provided one always saying "your good as long as you don't call me 50 times". When I did find a different attorney I contacted CAAP to try and help me get some of my money back cause there's no way she actually earned $3,500. They helped me get an itemized statement which was the biggest lie I'd ever seen in my life. She said we were in court for 6.5 hours when we were only there for 3. She said she met with me 3 different times totaling 3.5 hours (the first meeting she was working on someone else's case and didn't even work on mine). After that every time was only an hour, I kept track of it. At the end of the statement and all of her false "time" she spent working on my case she's now trying to say that I still owe her an additional $3,300. That's $6,600 for nothing not even sticking up for me in court (when she finally showed up). Believe me when I say this....if you meet with her and you do not have her undivided attention or she seems occupied with someone else's case..LEAVE. or I promise you she is going to charge you even if she's not working on your case. Now I am still dealing with the father but I at least have found me a good attorney one that listens to me and understands what I want. I have someone that actually calls me back and returns my emails. I will not be paying her anything else and still feel as if she owes me part of my retainer for not doing her job. I will take this as far as I need to go because I don't like someone thinking they can just bully me around and get away with it; I already have to put up with it from the father I'm not putting up with it from an attorney that was "supposed" to be on my side.

Horrible Attorney

Ms. Kriebel was hired in 2017 for a custody agreement. I’m not sure how she has so many high ratings - perhaps she is good with some cases, but our experience mirrors that in other negative reviews. Mrs. Kriebel was late, unorganized, unprofessional in her appearance & communication, sent an itemized... statement only when asked, not proactive, late to the courthouse for the hearing — overall difficult to work with... In the one in-person meeting Mrs. Kriebel spent a lot of time talking about her ex-husband, a skin spa / treatment business she was in the process of opening, and working on other cases/tasks. If you’re considering hiring Mrs. Kriebel, I recommend reviewing her responses to the negative reviews in AVVO - how she responds speaks volumes.

I’m sorry you were not satisfied with my services. I always return emails, texts and phone calls. All my clients have my cell phone. I use my personal experience with custody battles and divorce to discuss with clients that I've been in their shoes and completely understand the emotional aspects of a lawsuit. If you would like to discuss your concerns further, please contact me. Thank you.
