Excellent attorney

I highly recommend Ms. McCumber. She has given me excellent legal advice many times over the years. She was effective, proactive and sympathetic during my divorce and has helped me several times since with questions over visitation and child support.

Divorce/Elder Law

I would recommend Ms. McCumber because of the professionalism she used during my divorce. She was always available and always returned my phone calls. She took the time to get all the information necessary to help me make the best decisions for my future. Because of her expertise and knowledge of ...Texas law, I was satisfied with the final results of my divorce. Ms. McCumber later helped me with Financial/Health Power of Attorney for my parents. She is knowledgeable about Elder Law and the documents ensured the best legal rights for all involved.

Absolutely DO NOT recommend unless you do not mind losing everything. And she does not return calls

Did not return my phone calls. Did not keep me informed of status of my case or appeals, did not prepare me for court proceedings and what or what not to expect. She did not follow through with any actions when I told her my suspicions that my Ex was hiding assets, nor do anything about the domesti...c abuse issues. She did not fight for me and what I wanted or what was fair and equitable, nor inform me of the legal aspects of anything I discussed and disclosed. I felt abandoned, rather than supported. I still have financial awards ordered in decree that she has not obtained for me. She did not discuss or go over the final decree, nor visitation schedule, nor other complex aspects of decree that I did not completely understand. She did not provide critical financial and income documents affecting Child Support order. She was not prepared in any way for the temporary hearing and seemed uninformed about what my Ex and his Atty were going to do or say, so I guess she did not go over discovery docs or inquire about what My Ex wanted or was planning to do, or look into what his Attorney's strategy was going to be. Finally and more important that anything else, she alone is responsible for losing the most precious, "things" that mattered more than anything in the world to me-my children. Her response to me about losing Managing Conservatorship was that I should be happy because I did not have to deal with the daily issues such as feeding them and homework, etc.

This is Kathleen M. McCumber. In response to this review I can 100% say that this was NOT a client of mine. Having 2 children of my own I would NEVER tell a client that they should be happy about losing custody so that they didn't have to do homework etc. I cannot think of any client in the history of my 20-year practice that fits the description of this case. I suspect it is either a person I ruled against in JP or municipal court or a former client who has not paid their bill and has been turned over to collections.

Would rehire

During my emotional and stressful time Mrs. McCumber was always available to me whether it was by email or phone call. I was able to get joint custody, pay less in child support and keep the majority of my retirement. Although I went into this emotional time with low expectations I came out of the ex...perience better than I expected. Her experience and life long community involvement in Galveston county was a huge reason for my outcome.

Not an advocate for her clients

I hired Kathleen McCumber at the advice of a friend. She is a Justice of the Peace in Galveston County so I made the assumption that she would be a great advocate for me and my kids during my divorce. This was not so, as she is rarely available to work on cases because she is tied up in court frequen...tly as a judge. I received the bare minimum of service from her and because she was disinterested in my case I asked her to withdraw. I was forced to hire a new attorney to complete the work she claimed she did but never filed. She was very unprofessional in her emails and phone calls to me. The retainer I paid to her was a waste and now she is demanding even more money for services she did not provide. My experience was very disappointing and costly.
