Missed filings, missed hearing, poor communication, and devastating consequences in my forfeiture case.

I hired Nathan Mays for a federal asset forfeiture case involving approximately $860,000 seized by the government. Our agreement was that he would receive 40% only if he successfully recovered forfeited funds for us. Throughout the case, I was repeatedly assured that everything was under control a...nd that he was fighting for our money. However, critical paperwork was not properly filed, and important deadlines were missed. I later learned that Nathan Mays failed to file the proper documentation necessary for the case and also failed to appear for a hearing without informing me beforehand. After realizing the mistake, Nathan Mays contacted me and stated that he could no longer represent me due to a conflict of interest, and he referred me to another attorney. That attorney later informed me that the failure to properly file the required documents was one of the reasons we lost the forfeiture case and the money. The government later returned approximately $12,000 because those funds were not part of the forfeiture and belonged to my son’s savings. Since those funds were returned through his office, he kept approximately $4,400 as attorney fees. I disagreed with those fees because my understanding was that the contingency agreement applied only to forfeited funds successfully recovered. This experience caused devastating financial and emotional harm to my family. Based on my personal experience, I was extremely disappointed with the handling of this matter and the outcome.
