Jeffrey Shannon Mayes

Jeff is a Board Certified labor and employment specialist and litigator.  While Jeff’s practice concentrates on employment law litigation, he believes the best defense to a lawsuit is preventing it from even being filed. That’s why Jeff vigilantly assists and counsels clients in their day-to-day operations, investigations and employee relations to minimize litigation exposure and ensure that clients’ actions have strong legal support.

When clients are forced into court, Jeff relies on his significant litigation experience to lead them to successful results. Jeff has handled matters across the country, including class and collective actions, from preliminary investigation through trial and appeal, in areas that span the entire labor and employment law spectrum. Jeff has fine-tuned his litigation approach to maximize each case’s possibility for early dismissal, which happens more times than not. Jeff also regularly appears on behalf of clients before government agencies and tribunals. Jeff’s aggressive, yet no-nonsense approach to litigation has made him a “go to” advocate for clients who want an efficient and favorable outcome to their employment law issues.

As part of his focus on lawsuit avoidance, Jeff regularly conducts employment law training for clients, assists in policy creation and revision, reviews and audits employment practices, and guides employers through the myriad of laws and regulations that affect their everyday decisions. Jeff’s litigation experience provides invaluable, practical insight into the potential pitfalls that accompany disciplinary actions, hiring and promotion decisions, terminations, employee leaves of absence, workplace injuries and regulatory compliance. Jeff also brings experience in traditional labor law to assist clients with collective bargaining negotiations, unfair labor practice charges, and other issues common to unionized employers.

Jeff is a life-long Texan, born and raised in a small town. After receiving his B.A. from Texas A&M University, Jeff moved to Houston for law school and decided to make it his home. An avid outdoorsman, Jeff can often be found on the water or in the field when not travelling for work or with his wife and three young children.
