Had to Fire Him

I had hired Alex Houthuijzen as part of the Royal Trial Attorney team. They were referenced to me by a legal organization. Anytime I tried asking a question I was treated as if I was bothering him. His partner, Brandon Roy, never bothered to communicate to me. Information that needed to be su...bpoenaed was never received. His subpoenas never worked. They would ask me to get statements from possible witnesses. Their so-called evidence was only two sentences made by a non-witness. They never brought up the usage of character letters. My grand jury packet was comprised of two pages. I was also constantly harassed for money. I felt like I was harassed for money because they would keep asking me for payment. Even though I always paid on the agreed date. But they wanted their payments weeks early. After being promised that my case would be dismissed by a grand jury... It wasn't. I was disappointed. His promises were not kept. After that, I looked for better and more established lawyers. They're able to tell me that I had hired an attorney that had literally left law school that year prior. That his focus at the time wasn't in criminal law. And that I should have never been promised any outcome. The attorneys that I telephoned were more welcoming and patient than my current lawyers. I learned more about the legal process from those phone calls...than during the whole time I had Mr.Alex Houthuijzen as my lawyer. I truly feared losing my case if I kept Mr. Alex Houthuijzen (and Brandon Roy) as my attorney. I ended up firing him (and Brandon Roy) as my attorney. And I hired a more established criminal defense lawyer....one of the top ten in Houston. Firing Alex Houthuijzen and the Royal Trial Attorney team was one of the smartest decisions I've ever made in my life.

Being charged with a crime is a difficult process with many twists and turns. I understand the clients’ feeling of helplessness. The case referenced in this review was a difficult and serious case with a difficult set of facts. I worked on this case when I was an associate straight out of law school as the review suggests. However, I wanted to highlight some of the inaccuracies of this review. 1) I never promise a client an outcome. I always express that I am hopeful that a good result will occur and that I am working as hard as I can to win the case, but I have never, in my career promised an outcome. 2) It is interesting when a person finds the time to review a person like this as if my whole career is not built on my reputation. My work on this person’s case was under the supervision of another attorney and I do apologize for how she felt, but let’s get to the facts. A perusal of my career thus far, on my website, and on district clerk pages throughout various counties suggests a lawyer who spends his entire existence working for the innocent. I have gotten serious felonies dismissed. I have won jury trials. And I stop at nothing to figure out solutions to my clients’ cases using the facts at first, but if that fails, I use the law. I have no ill will towards this person and I am happy to learn that this person’s case was dismissed. It is tragic that this person felt it necessary to go on Avvo (almost a year after this person’s case was dismissed) and write a review like this about me to attempt to dissuade others from using my services. Unfortunately, that’s the way this business goes. Nevertheless, to any future person who reads this just know that this is no true reflection of me as a person or as a lawyer. I am tenacious. I am kind. And I use the facts and the law to get the best possible results for my clients. I have spent the last (almost) three years of my life doing so and I will continue to do so until the last day I can think, walk, and breathe. I wish this person the best in their life.
