Derrick Adam Elliott

I began my carreer at Legal Aid of Northwest Texas in Fort Worth as a staff attorney.  Due to a budget crisis in 2008, Legal Aid had massive layoffs, and I was one of the unfortunate lawyers laid-off. 

Determined to provide for my family, and after much prayer, I immediately opened the Law Office of Derrick Elliott in Fort Worth.  As part of my practice, I began accepting criminal defense cases in the Eastland and Big Country area.  I fell in love with the area almost immediately. 

After thirteen months of a successful practice in Fort Worth, I received a call from Legal Aid of Northwest Texas about a position in Brownwood.  I decided to return to Legal Aid and help them open a brand new office in Brownwood.  For most of the first year in Brownwood, I was the only attorney in the office.  Despite this, we were able to assist over one hundred individuals that would not have been able to afford an attorney. We found a newly licensed attorney to join the office, and our office was able to meet even more demands.

After two and a half years with Legal Aid of Northwest Texas in Brownwood, I was offered a position with Frac Tech in Cisco, Texas.  While at Frac Tech, I honed my skills in the field of contracts and transactional law.  I was responsible for drafting, editing and negotiating MSAs, NDAs, Leases, Oil and Gas Leases, Construction Contracts, Intelectual Property, and other documents such as Employment Agreements and Foriegn Worker Visas. 

In June of 2011, Frac Tech moved its legal department to Fort Worth.  Although I was offered a position in the Cisco office, I felt that any chance for advancement would only lead to Fort Worth.  I felt the best decision for my family was to resign from Frac Tech and re-open my private practice in Eastland. 

In 2013, I was appointed Municipal Judge for the City of Eastland.  I was honored to serve the community I have grown to love.  I resigned from the City of Eastland August 1, 2015, and I am now an associate with the Law Offices of Jason M. Johnson, PLLC.  While still serving Eastland and surrounding counties, my transition and opportunity to work with Jason Johnson will only serve to increase my ability to help more clients than ever before.
