I was referred through LegalShield and initially was quoted with a 25% discount with $300 per hour and a flat rate fee (if I wanted to do a flat rate - bundle) of $800. In the initial consult it appeared we were on the same page and I was very clear and explained I needed a new contract that I wanted... an attorney to create for me and my business with a phone call for approximately 20 mins initial call for this pricing. I called to follow - up a week later to setup payment and move forward. The attorney Darryl Shaper said he remembered who I was and then appeared to not recall our initial conversation and then provided me increased quotes for $350 and $1500 for the same work I explained I was needing for a contract. When I reminded him I was with LegalShield as a member he said he then recalled that and It would still apply for the rate he quoted me for the second time and when I asked for the reasoning he explained he will have to do more work; though I explained in the first call the entire work that I was needing and then shared with him in the second call that he stated it was "pretty basic" and standard. When I brought this up he stated that he had already spent a lot of talking to me and that I haven't paid him yet when our initial call was 20 mins and the second call that I was trying to setup moving forward with services was 5 mins total from their call back to me to when I hung up. I choose to find another attorney as he said I should do if I didn't want to pay him the increased fees. I decided to do it not due to the fees; though due to how he was unprofessional with me on the call. I was so excited to call today and get started and star to pay on the contract I was needing to be completed and at the end of the call I was in surprised and just didn't want to form a business relationship starting or having this as part of the experience was not acceptable to me. I value my business relationships above all the work that I do. I know people have bad days and things that happen; though experience is a no go for me and a huge red flag.

Darryl is one of the kindest lawyers out there and extremely generous. He went above and beyond the scope of work I needed (and asked) for. I cannot express my gratitude enough. Darryl is a breath of fresh air, regarding basic legal stuff. I had a contract that a big customer was pushing for me to sign. I had Darryl review it using the website buy page. He got back to me quickly, and pointed out 23 things that were 'not fair', of which he said 4 of them I really needed to be... comfortable with as they were serious. I used the list to negotiate back, and we were able to resolve most of them, and I was able to live with the remainders. Best lawyer experience ever. The fixed price model is genius. I know what to expect, that's what scared me off hiring an hourly lawyer in the first place. Would highly recommend for small business owners.
