My case had been pending for a few years and I ended up using two different lawyers prior to Jackie. One day I received a text message 'reminder' from the Attorney General that I had a hearing in two days. Excuse me, no such information was ever provided to me about this hearing. I never felt like th...ere was a connection or that the previous two lawyers were actually advocating for my rights or even worried about me as a person. Luckily it didn't matter because literally the day before my Final Trial, I reached out to Jackie VanZant. We were both thinking that with him being new on my case that the trial scheduled for the next day might be reset. I only had a brief 30 minute consultation with Jackie, so how could he be ready for a trial against my ex-wife, her well-known local attorney and the attorney general in less than a day away?! Well, we arrived at Court the next day, and were informed that the trial was moving forward! Uh-oh...Jackie was only armed with the info I gave him the previous night, and a pen and some scratch paper. To say I was nervous was an understatement! However, Jackie literally just sat there and focused on every single question and answer that my ex-wife was telling her lawyer (while she was on the stand). When it was Jackie's turn to cross-examine her, that was when the show began! Jackie caught her in several inconsistencies and it was great because FINALLY someone was asking her the right questions and putting a stop to the downright lies she had been saying about me! When Jackie was done with her, she left the witness stand and she definitely did not have that same smirky smile that she initially had! Then the home evaluator was called to the witness stand and my anxiety returned because Jackie never got an opportunity to even read the lengthy report! How was he going to know what to ask her? I kept trying to whisper some facts to him that I thought might help, but he calmly and collectively whispered to me "I got this." Then it was his turn to cross-examine once again, and again, he turned up the heat when needed and got her to admit (despite her report) that I am a good father and deserve the maximum visitation! It really did feel like I was sitting there and watching the movie of my own trial! By the time it was my turn to testify, I felt about as cool as a cucumber because I knew the truth had finally come out! Her lawyer sure did try to get under my skin, but Jackie would chime in with 'Objection' every once in a while, and it worked by actually getting under the lawyer's skin! At the end of it all, the Judge was about to make his ruling and my anxiety quickly returned, But then came the news. I got a 50/50 visitation with my daughter!!! This is VERY hard for dads in Texas! Also, my child support stayed where I wanted it to (my ex AND the attorney general were trying to get it to DOUBLE), and the Judge actually ordered me and my ex to take steps in co-parenting. I actually thought that was a nice touch, because at the end of it all, it's not about 'winning in court.' It really is about the best interest of our daughter. However, that being said, after three long years, and two previous attorneys (of making me feel like I was always in the dark and not really advocating for what I was needing), I am so glad I found the perfect attorney for me. I knew Jackie VanZant for less than 24 hours but he took the info I gave him, and he turned around and literally won everything I was hoping for, plus a few things I didn't even know I could get! I know that sounds like a line from a commercial, but it's literally the truth. My ex was furious! When the Judge was giving the ruling, my ex was getting so upset that she literally had to be excused from the courtroom because she was nauseous and getting sick!!! I couldn't believe it! There will never be another time that I walk into any courtroom without Jackie VanZant with me...and his pen and scratch paper! A HUGE thankyou to Jackie!!!
