When it comes to legal representation, I started by looking at reviews. I try to be open minded because I know some people will put a bad review because things did not turn out the way they wanted. I am not going to rule anyone out for a bad review or two. I visited several law firms with an open ...mind to see what they could do to help me, but none made me feel comfortable. I was looking for someone who cared, someone who would take the time to listen. Someone who would see my case and handle it as if it were their own case. Mostly, I wanted someone who was honest and after several consults, I decided to give Ilarraza Law Office a chance. I was immediately impressed by the genuine compassion this firm displayed. My consult lasted longer than I thought it would and it was because they took the time to listen. That was a big plus for me! My case was not an easy one. It was complex but the Ilarraza Law Office put their heart into it. Each time I called or emailed, the paralegals and attorney's responded quickly and eased my mind. They were prepared and on top of things the minute we hit the courtroom. I was beyond happy with Jennifer and her ability to present my case. Jennifer was professional, quick on her feet and fought for me every step of the way. I was so pleased with the outcome!! I know this is long post, but it was important for me to give this firm the best review and hopefully help others when they are faced with choosing a law firm. ISSUE 1- Ms. Wilson told me that her retainer would be $5,000 through final, even with a difficult discovery. Her firm went though that full amount within 2 months after paying her- no trial, no orders, barely touching discovery. I paid an additional $3000 and her firm went through that within 1 1/2...-2 months. ISSUE 2- she requires an authorization of credit card form to be kept on file. I do not have a credit card, only a bank visa card. Her front office staff assured me that they wont charge it. However, I wrote on it anyway to not charge anything on it because it is my bank card; I do not keep large amounts in it. To message me prior to with notice of charge amount and going to charge. She did not and charged my bank card $1127. ISSUE 3- I told her of my address change and desires to keep my address not public. I requested that she file whatever forms or hearing so that it is not public information. She instead, did not file the notification at all. Then turned around and said I did not notify her of my address change. Though, it was on my contract, I had discussed it with her, her paralegal, front office staff, turned over discovery documents with my address, even discussed it with the other attorney of the firm, Ms. Hemphill. After I told her that I had indeed notified her and her firm, she filed a motion to withdrawal from being my attorney due to communication issues. AND CHARGED ME FOR IT. ISSUE 4- I am the petitioner and requested child support to be raised, geographical restriction change with lift, retroactive child support, and needed some changes within the insurance that dad provides to have access. I told Ms. Wilson what wording I wanted within the geographical restriction including a lift if dad moved, what I needed with child support (I wanted to know what he should be paying vs what he was). Opposing counsel offered a raise of child support, geographical restriction to denton county. Ms. Wilson did not advise me prior to agreeing to his offer if it was what I wanted or not. I assumed it was so I agreed. ISSUE 5- Opposing counsel sent their version of the temporary agreement. It was not what I thought our agreement would be, and requested that Ms. Wilson not make edits. Instead, to draft the temporary orders as I had thought it would be wording wise, and with the remaining custody/possession included even though there were no changes. Ms Wilson took it upon herself to still edit the opposing counsel's draft with what I sent to her that I saw wrong. She refused for a month to draft the temporary orders as I had requested. Instead, argued with me about it and insulted me and berated me numerous times. ISSUE 6- Ms. Wilson waited until the day before our entry hearing to send the drafted orders as I had thought they should be. Both opposing counsel and I sent our edit request and she fixed them. Then they sent their clients edit requests - I am not certain what his requests were because she did not send that to me. Just the email to opposing counsel with the clean version and requesting that they put his edit requests within that clean version. From there, she did nothing more. We all spent the entire day editing, nothing was signed or filed with the court. ISSUE 7- Ms. Wilson did not get a rule 11 agreement for the new version of the temporary agreement. To which, I did not know she needed to do and she never advised me that it needed to be done. SO during our entry hearing, and even though opposing counsel had agreed to most of my version of the temporary orders (other than the lift), he fought for his version of the temporary orders. Ms. Wilson did not bring up all of the issues in regards to his draft of the temporary orders. Nor file with the court my version of the proposed agreement of temporary orders. So the Court ruled in favor of Opposing Counsel's version of the temporary orders. ISSUE 8- this firm charged me $10 for each email sent/received. I have more but cant list all issues.I
