I handle cases in all areas of family law including divorce, modifications, enforcement, prenuptial and partition agreements and step-parent adoptions. My preferred method of resolving family disputes is through the collaborative process, but I understand that court intervention is sometimes necessary and I am willing to take a case to trail if necessary. When children are involved, they are my top priority.

  3. Wills and living wills

I prepare simple wills with testamentary trusts, if necessary, living wills (also known as directives to physicians), and powers of attorney. In more complicated estate situations, I have other attorneys to whom I refer clients to make sure they are getting exactly what they need.

  4. Probate
    5%
Texas has some of the most simplified probate procedures to assist with the passing of assets upon a person's death. Most probate matters are uncontested and merely involve the formality of transferring the property. Muniment of Title is one of the most common probate procedures I have used.

  5. Guardianship

When a person is unable to handle or manage their own affairs, the appointment of a guardian is sometimes necessary to take care of the incapacitated person. This can be a disabled child who has turned 18 or an elderly parent who can no longer make their own decisions.

In 1991 Lisa began her legal career as a litigation attorney with Streich Lang in Phoenix. In 1994 she moved back to her home state of Texas to work as a tax attorney with the Dallas law firm of Johnson & Gibbs. When Johnson & Gibbs disbanded in 1995, Lisa began practicing family law in Plano. In 1997, Lisa partnered with Sharon Easley to form Easley & Marquis. After 15 years in practice with Sharon, Lisa joined with Hastings Hanshaw and Collin Kennedy in 2012 to start a family law practice with the firm of Hanshaw Kennedy Marquis. In April of 2015, Lisa joined the firm of Quilling, Selander, Lownds, Winslett & Moser, P.C. to head up their Collin County office, which opened in Plano on April 1, 2015.

Lisa is well known for her work in collaborative law, successfully handling more than 100 cases. She has been secretary, vice-president and president of the Collin County Bar Association, chair of the Collin County Bench/Bar Foundation and vice-president of the Plano chapter of the American Business Women’s Association. She is an active member of the Association of Networking Professionals, in which she has held the positions of Vice-President and President for multiple terms. Lisa has also served as a Girl Scout Leader in Celina and on the church council of Rejoice Lutheran Church in Frisco.

Lisa is thorough, professional and fair
Lisa recently represented me in my divorce case. She was extremely professional, very well versed in the various legal ins and outs of my situation and always the voice of reason during the whole process. She responded to my inquiries very promptly and was available when I needed to meet with her. Divorces can be emotional and stressful for the people involved but I felt confident with Lisa by my side. She explained the process clearly, to the point where there was no doubt in my mind that the options presented by her were best. In addition, I was so surprised at how well versed Lisa is with handling financial details and the math around these. If this wasn't enough, Lisa is more than fair and transparent in her billing. No one wants the added stress of wondering if they are being billed unnecessarily by their attorney while dealing with a legal matter. Lisa is supported by Cindy who is her assistant and para legal and is very impressive and thorough as well.

Excellent divorce attorney
Lisa recently handled my divorce and I was very pleased with the result. In dealing with opposing counsel that can be described as "difficult" at best she did a great job of keeping things moving and keeping me informed. Her advice resulted in an agreement that both parties are happy with and should be very easy to abide by. I would recommend her services to anyone needing assistance.

Lisa Marquis is amazing!
She expertly guided me through the custody modification process. I was nervous and scared to death about the whole thing, but she gave me the confidence I needed. Her communication is seriously great. I always felt I had her full attention and that means so much when the stakes are high. My kids are with me now and we are happy. I wouldn't hesitate to hire her again if the need arose.

Excellent!
Lisa was excellent. She was very calming at a very difficult time. She always answered my questions and offered advice that was in my best interest even though at times it was hard to hear. I didn’t hire her to agree with me, I hired her to help me and that’s exactly what she did. I feel in my situation I got the best results possible and it was because of Lisa. If I ever need a lawyer again I won’t go anywhere else.

Represented me during my divorce.
I hired Lisa as my divorce attorney in 2012. She was a complete professional and helped me to remain calm, logical, and reasonable throughout my divorce and she always looked out for my best interest and out for what was in our child's best interest.

Highly Recommend!
I hired Lisa in 2012 to represent me during my divorce. After interviewing 3 other attorney's (including a "high powered" attorney), I know I made the right choice. Lisa represented me well and had my best interest in mind. She is very responsive and knowledgeable and I felt completely confident having her represent me. There were many times when I just wanted to be done with my case and settle for whatever was offered from the other attorney and walk away. Lisa did not let me settle and pushed for a fair settlement. Overall, I felt like she was not just my attorney, but also my friend. I was extremely pleased with the outcome and highly recommend her! The other side had a 2 attorney team working against us...and we still came out the winner.

Great Attorney
I have been working with Lisa for the past 9 months in a child modification case against my troubled ex-wife. Lisa has been wonderful to work with. She is professional, prompt and to the point. She will tell you how it is without any games and delays. I have found this rare in family law and this is one quality that sets Lisa apart from the many other family law lawyers in the area.

Family Law Lawyer You Can Count On!
Lisa has been my lawyer for the last 5 years. I have a very nasty case that has lingered on longer than anyone has expected with a lot of twists and turns along the way. During the last 5 years Lisa has been wonderful! She has always had my family’s best interest in mind. Lisa is very responsive, honest, professional and understanding. She always keeps me informed and educated on what best options for every situation that has come up. I would highly recommend Lisa to anyone who needs a Family Law lawyer. Along with Lisa expertise she also has a very dedicated staff that is a delight to work with.

One of a kind
Lisa has been my attorney for over 8 years. Lisa is the ONLY honest attorney I have ever met. I know what you’re thinking, “there’s no such thing!” But it’s true. If you don’t have a case, she won’t waste your time or money. One time, I wanted to file against my ex. Lisa told me not to because I don’t have a strong enough case. I went against Lisa’s advice and went with an attorney who would take my case to court. Big mistake! I dropped that other attorney, went back to Lisa to clean up my mess. Now, I don’t cough without asking Lisa for permission. I didn’t give Lisa a high mark for being responsive because there have been times when she has been “too wordy” with her responses. That’s Lisa, though. She’s very thorough. During those times, I have to ask Lisa to “dumb it down” for me and remind her, “I’m not an attorney. Nor, do I understand attorney language.” She does. No matter how complicated things are, Lisa is good at keeping things simple with her clients.

Not so great
I hired Lisa for my divorce case. Although me and my ex settled she was pushing for a trial which would have been more expensive. She charged me for time she spent on emails trying to encourage me to go to trial even though i told her i dont want to go to trial.
Response from Lisa Marquis June 7, 2018
Although I am not sure who has written this review, I'm sorry if you felt that I was pushing you to trial. I believe that families are generally better off coming to an agreement on their own in family law matters as opposed to leaving the decision up to the judge. If you felt that I was encouraging you to go to trial, then I must have believed that the terms of your agreement were not in your best interest and that you could have gotten better results from the court. If you would like to contact me directly to address your concerns, I would be happy to do so.

"I endorse this lawyer. I have worked opposite to Lisa on numerous cases. She is professional, courteous, and kind. She works hard for her clients with the utmost of ethical standards. If a new client comes to see me that I am unable to represent for some reason, Lisa is always on the short list of people I give to that client to go see. She is an excellent attorney that I would recommend to anyone."
