Keeping me in the loop.

Divorce is an ugly word. But sometimes it has to happen. It's a weary feeling,an angry feeling, an unsure feeling.Uncertain of how to do things.I googled, Divorce Lawyer and went through reviews. I decided to go with Martin Attorney's,because they had great reviews and were really close to me.From the... beginning, I was explained how my case might go. Followed by an e-mail recapping what was discussed.I had questions and they were answered professionally and in a timely manner. All in all, I was very pleased and grateful, that they were the ones I chose, to help me through this difficult decision.

Ineffective and unorganized attorney who overcharges

Stephen was an incredibly unorganized and ineffective attorney. He already has been disciplined by a state licensing authority three times and I intend to file a complaint as well. I wish I would have checked this and his reviews before hiring him. He charged me over 7 thousand dollars and got almos...t nothing done. He continued to charge me for his mistakes that he made. He forgot to schedule an interpreter that I needed for the case and then charged me for all of the rescheduling that took place due to his mistake. My case was delayed and rescheduled two times and he continued to charge me even though it was all due to his mistakes. The day of the final hearing of our divorce, he scheduled another hearing an hour before and then arrived an hour late. Because of that, our case was delayed almost two months and he continued charging me. I was charged $220 for this court appearance to which he was an hour late and the trial never happened! I emailed him after this to make sure that he had scheduled the interpreter as he forgot the first time for the temporary hearing, and he charged me for my email and then the emails to schedule the interpreter. Also, in the beginning of the case, I was trying to figure out how to get my soon to be ex husband out of the house as he was being incredibly hateful and antagonistic to me and our 4 year old son. I emailed him and his assistant Sue Ann Bright about it and the assistant scolded me for having told him about the divorce instead of trying to support and help me. Overall, my experience with him and his assistant at Martin Attorneys was horrendous. I ended up switching attorneys and got the case taken care of quickly and effectively. Please reconsider using Stephen Fisher as your attorney. He makes sure to charge for every tiny thing but does not take care of business.

Big fees, little results

All in all, I paid this man around $3,000 before deciding to go with another attorney. First, he failed to get divorce paperwork filed before my wife did (we filed on the same day), which meant having to be on the defensive the rest of the time. Then it became an issue of paying his substantial fees ...and travel expenses because of this (I dismissed him from the case before it came to that). I paid $25-50 for every email I sent him, and at least a couple of them went unresponded to. His case manager was rude and disrespectful, and he was also quite disrespectful on his last phone call to me (regarding my dismissal email), and I got charged $82 for that. I spent weeks just sitting with no progress on the divorce and no updates. It was a terrible experience. The attorney I hired to finish the divorce charged a flat fee (no nickel-and-dime surprises), and has already taken action to expedite the process. I do not recommend this attorney or his office.

Disappointed and Confused

I hired Mr. Fisher after my wife unexpectedly served me with divorce papers. He was very nice, very comforting and put me at ease. We discussed my case, what I wanted out of it, (mainly primary custody of my child), and he explained Thierry billing process and a couple of estimates on what it might... cost based on what might happen. $1500 for on the low end for a fairly lightly contested to $5000 on the high end for a knock down drag out. I didn't have very much communication with Mr Fisher after I paid the retainer and had that visit. I talked with his paralegal, who was pleasant, but didn't have the information I needed. My Ex and I worked out our own property settlement. My ex wouldn't agree to me having primary custody and Mr Fisher advised me that it would be very costly to fight for it and that I stood a good chance of not having any custody at all if I pressed the issue, despite the fact that I had documentation that supported my claims for custody. He advised joint custody. My Ex and I discussed it and agreed on our own to this without the lawyers. I feel that Mr Fisher was either lazy, or felt he had more important cases than mine. I don't feel that he gave me his best representation or value. I ended up paying almost $7000 for what was essentially an uncontested divorce. I would advise checking around before hiring this attorney.

Divorce

I hired Steve to take care of my divorce. He was very knowledgeable and was able to answer my questions. I had a non-contested divorce with joint custody. He was able to get everything taken care of in just a few months. I would recommend him for divorce cases.

"It is always a pleasure for me to deal with Stephen. I have had several cases with him and I think he does a good job of zealously representing his clients but at the same time he is able to maintain a good working relationship with other attorneys. This actually works to the clients advantage because this helps to resolve the conflict between the clients. After all the person you are in a confrontation with is probably the parent of your children."
