Edwin L. Hightower

Edwin L. Hightower, JD, MBA, is a Louisiana attorney who has been practicing law for more than 15 years.  He earned his undergraduate degree, concentrating in Economics, from the United States Military Academy, at West Point, New York, his law degree from Tulane Law School, and his MBA graduate degree from the Louisiana State University School of Business, and is licensed to practice law in Louisiana and Texas.  Ed works with closely-held companies, business owners, entrepreneurs, and their insurers in protecting their legal interests in court and contract negotiations.  He has defended numerous professionals, including law enforcement officers, architects, engineers, real estate agents, and appraisers in claims of professional liability. 

            Ed is married to a veterinarian, owns six dogs and in recent years has become active in the areas related to animal law issues.  He teaches CLE classes on the drafting and development of animal trusts pursuant to the requirements of state law.  Additionally, he represents the interests of a California Trust involved in the litigation of the possession, ownership and compensation for services related to a line of champion-quality show dogs.  Further, he provides assistance to veterinarians confronted with legal issues of employment and business operations.  Ed is an assistant editor to the American Veterinary Medical Law Association (“AVMLA”) newsletter and started the Louisiana Business Law Blog (), which discusses matters relevant to Louisiana businesses, including veterinary medicine.
