Aggressive. Diplomatic. Resourceful.
Carmen Hebert has been a partner at the firm since 2013, during which time she has successfully tried dozens of cases in city, state and federal courts in Louisiana and appeared many times before Louisiana administrative agencies, boards and commissions. Capable in navigating her clients through the legal system from the inception of a lawsuit through trial and appeal, Carmen's clients can expect the best in both her written and oral advocacy.
Carmen's principal practice is complex commercial and business litigation where she assists clients in payment disputes, contract disputes, unfair trade practices and unfair competition claims, eviction proceedings, lease enforcement claims, employment claims, enforcing non-compete agreements, and enforcement and collection of judgments. She also handles claims involving breaches of fiduciary duties of corporate officers, breaches of operating or partnership agreements, and other business disputes among interest holders. Outside of court, Carmen is well versed in drafting contracts, leases, organizational documents for limited liability companies and corporations, operating agreements, partnership agreements, and agreements to transfer ownership interests between new or departing owners. She also assists clients in the construction industry in negotiating contracts, preserving and enforcing claims under the Louisiana Private Works Act and Public Works Act, and appearing before licensing boards.
Carmen earned her Juris Doctor from the Paul M. Hebert Law Center at Louisiana State University in 2010 where she graduated magna cum laude and was inducted into the Order of the Coif. While in law school, Carmen was selected to the Louisiana Law Review where she served as a Senior Editor to Volume 70. She was also a recipient of the David and Bertha Herman Professional Responsibility Award, the Phelps Dunbar scholarship, Faculty Scholarship, Chancellor's List recognition for five semesters, and nine C.A.L.I. awards (Legal Writing and Research I and II, Family Law of Persons, The Legal Profession, International Sales, Successions and Donations, First Amendment, Louisiana Civil Procedure II, Insurance). As an active participant in the moot court program, Carmen competed on the Willem C. Vis International Commercial Arbitration Moot team in Vienna, Austria, and on the National Moot Court team, and she was named to the Wex. S. Malone chapter of the American Inns of Court. She also served as an extern for Judge Jewell "Duke" Welch at the Louisiana First Circuit Court of Appeals for one semester and worked as a research assistant for Professor Emeritus George W. Pugh on the 2010 and 2011 editions of the Handbook on Louisiana Evidence Law.
Carmen Hebert is admitted to practice law before all Louisiana state and federal courts and the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Fifth Circuit. She served as a Junior Member of the Louisiana Law Institute in 2012. Beginning in 2014, Carmen has been named to the Super Lawyers "Rising Stars" list every year.
