When asked why I stayed in New Orleans I always reply “look around…you don’t get any of this anywhere else.” I’m talking about the people, the culture, the new restaurants starting up on every corner, the festivals, the music, the love citizens have for their city. That is what made a small town Georgia girl leave home and stay.
That’s right, I’m your typical small town Southern Georgia peach plucked from the tree but I somehow landed right here in the CBD in New Orleans starting my own law firm with a husband I have the privilege of working alongside every day. How does that happen?
I grew up outside of Atlanta and went to the University of Georgia and studied Psychology and Art History. While at UGA I worked in the Clinical and Social Psychology Departments as research assistant. This led me to work at a domestic abuse shelter for battered women and children. It was during my time at UGA that I developed a fascination with the law and the legal system. After visiting New Orleans to watch the Dawgs play in the Sugarbowl, I was hooked and knew I had to attend law school here in this great city.
I moved to New Orleans in 2008 and haven’t looked back since. I studied law at Loyola University New Orleans and received both International Law and Environmental Law certificates. While I’m proud of these certificates, I was most influenced by my time spent as a member of the Trial Advocacy Program (Mock Trial). It was during this time that I honed my skills as a trial attorney and became more interested in criminal defense and personal injury. I was honored to serve as their President my senior year and was chosen amongst the professors and administration at Loyola to receive the Order of the Barristers. I was humbled to receive such a coveted award for superb oral advocacy. Today, that is one of my favorite and greatest accomplishments.
With my experience and education, I was accepted into the Loyola University Clinic Program and my final year I was able to practice law as a student practitioner under the guidance of a mentor. During this time, I worked alongside other attorneys within the Orleans Parish District Attorney’s Office in their Juvenile, Criminal and Appeals Divisions. In addition, I practiced in the Jefferson Parish District Attorney’s Office and was fortunate enough to even help out on a first degree murder trial. Without these experiences, I would not be the accomplished and confident attorney I am today.

"I have known Sarah Clayton and her law partner for many years and can unequivocally endorse her and her firm. She is highly intelligent, dedicated, tireless, and an aggressive advocate for those who have no voice."
"Sarah is a compassionate, intelligent, and charismatic attorney. She is personable and friendly and has an ability to make clients feel comfortable in the worst of times. Her attention to detail and ability to connect with clients truly set Sarah apart from other attorneys in the area."
"Sarah Clayton is an exceptionally skilled litigator and committed advocate for her clients. I highly recommend her to any person who feels that they have been wronged and needs to be made whole again."
"I endorse this lawyer. Our firm does not practice personal injury or criminal defense, but Sarah is exceptionally knowledgeable in those areas. I trust her to answer any questions that may arise."
"Ms. Clayton is a sincere and caring attorney, who gives her clients the best attention, while remaining professional with others."
"As a lawyer who has an office next to Sarah in the New Orleans area, I can wholeheartedly recommend Sarah for any legal problem that a client may have. Not only is Sarah an exceptional attorney, one whom I consult on a regular basis on a variety of legal issues, but she is also one of the most zealous advocates that I have had the pleasure of watching practice. Her work ethic is incredible and her drive to get as good a result as possible for her clients is second to none. Sarah is also one of the most pleasant people with which I have had the pleasure of working. The combination of fierce advocacy for her clients and kindness to both clients and other attorneys is one that is rare to see in this profession. It is for these reasons that I give Sarah my full endorsement."
"I endorse this lawyer. Ms. Clayton is a zealous advocate for her clients. She demonstrates the utmost professionalism and is a real lawyer's lawyer."
"Sarah does excellent work. She is diligent, thorough, and advocates tirelessly for her clients. Sarah also practices law with integrity- she evaluates her cases carefully and advises her clients truthfully as to their best options and legal standing. This is not an attorney seeking to run up a bill for their own profit, but rather a person who seeks to truly represent and advise her clients to the best of her ability."
"Very seldom have I come across an attorney who truly cares about her cases as much as Sarah does. From her first meeting with a client to the time she closes out a file, her attention to detail is second to none. She has a way of making client's feel at ease both with her and their case. By the time Sarah is done with a consultation, the client leaves feeling confident that they know what the can expect of their case. Sarah is excellent at managing a client's expectations. In the difficult world of family law, Sarah has a way of helping clients get through their legal journey so that they can focus on the things in life that really matter. The legal practice would be better off with more lawyers like Sarah."
