Laura Lanier Catlett

I retained Ms. Catlett in November 2022 to handle a case involving my Social Work Licensing Board and I submitted the requested $2,000 retainer. Ms. Catlett consistently missed deadlines (not informing my Board that she had been retained by their deadline despite having more than a week to do so, sto...od me up for a meeting, disregarded important communications and wanted to charge me for books and time so she could read up on how to handle my case. She went for days or weeks before responding to my emails. Furthermore, she took more than 4 weeks to contact my expert witness with critical deadlines approaching. When she became increasingly unresponsive, I made the mistake of sending her an additional $1,000 begging her to stop neglecting my case to no avail. Lastly, she wanted to frame my case as a free speech issue (the charge was breach of confidentiality) which would be totally inappropriate and would certainly have lost my case as confirmed by my expert witness. When I pointed this out, she remained defiant in her stance. I was forced to fire her to obtain competent counsel.  As typical of her practices, Ms. Catlett has NEVER proffered an accounting for her time and never sent a bill despite repeated requests, but she found time to deliver dirty gossip to my new attorney that I was threatening her with filing a complaint with the Bar Association. I am ow forced to take her to Small Claims Court. Do not recommend.
