Attorney William G. Cherbonnier is an experienced New Orleans based attorney who proved to me he is a genuine consumer advocate. My family and I were displaced during Hurricane Katrina. We suffered tremendous loses. During a series of unfortunate events we lost our New Orleans home to a bank, I will ...not name. Now, in 2019, the statute of limitations has expired on a particular 2006 debt I defaulted on during the Housing crisis of 2008. I called several law firms and attorneys seeking someone to represent me to have the debt canceled because the six-year statute of limitations has expired. It was frustrating. No attorney would give me the time of day unless I put up a retainer first. They gave the impression they couldn’t be bothered because there wasn’t enough profit in defending my rights as a consumer. Now, I’m not saying all attorneys are greedy, but the ones I spoke to left me with that impression. Then, I made a cold call to Mr. Cherbonnier’s office. He answered the phone, asked a few questions, then proceeded over the next 30 minutes to help me better understand my legal position and the pros and cons of my case. He was very generous with his deep knowledge and his valuable time. I had been under a tremendous amount of stress. Just speaking with someone about my problem that was so generous, kind and professional, gave me hope. Although I didn’t hire him—he said he’d love to take my case but his expenses traveling back and forth to my Parish would only add to my costs unnecessarily—he advised me instead to seek an attorney in the Parish where I live. Also, local relationships can be very important in some cases. Nevertheless, if I’m ever in need of an attorney in New Orleans, William G. Cherbonnier will be my first call.
