Michael Weeks helped us create multiple complicated trusts. He was very thorough in his explanations and possible scenarios that we would not have thought about. We felt very confident in his expertise.
I had the pleasure of meeting Mr. Weeks recently when my husband and I set up our wills, power of attorneys and health care directives. We had a lot of questions as we were very unfamiliar with the process. Mr. Weeks did an awesome job of answering all of those questions and making us feel comfortable. I have already recommended him to several of our friends and family members who want to start planning for the future.
I work with families facing long term care and those who want high quality estate planning. My main objective is to help provide peace of mind for families as they go through difficult processes associated with aging.

Disappointed in the Demeanor
Mr. Weeks was supposed to be the expert in estate planning and elder care, which is why we went to him for the will, trust and other elder issues. He was not at first helpful; he ran through everything and didn't seem to want to spend the time to explain anything. We finally told him we found him less than helpful, and then he was a little better. He never gave advice about medicare and nursing home issues, and he promised to look into the veteran benefits, but never did. We truly felt he wasn't interested in us. We felt we got a decent product, but that it was not necessarily taylored to our concerns. We recommend him only because he is the only one in the St. Charles area that is supposed to be certified in elder care issues.

First off, I would like to say that I am sorry your experience didn’t fully meet your expectations. I would be happy to discuss this further with you to see what could be done to try to help. However, since the review was anonymous, I have no way to reach out, and I have no way to know what may have happened in this case. I can assure you that this type of complaint is not usual at all for our firm, it’s actually the opposite, but we do take feedback seriously. I hope you do reach out.

Mr. Weeks may be great for Wills and Trusts, but for assistance with more critical issues, I would look elsewhere.
Mr. Weeks appears knowledgeable in some areas, but when his attorney expertise is actually needed, he falls painfully short. A sibling moved in with our parent and took emotion & financial advantage. The state provided my parent with an attorney, and although we met with this attorney and Weeks to discuss the issues, the scheduled meeting with ALL parties never occurred. When we pressed Mr. Weeks about rescheduling the conference, he said that we could meet, but it would cost us thousands of more dollars to continue. We were left helpless when we needed it most, and the abuse continues.

As the story goes, there are two sides to every story. In this case, allegations of financial abuse were made by this client towards their mother. Protective steps were discussed with client, and initiated. The attorney appointed to represent the mother, examined her financial records, met several times with the mother, and was frank in that he didn’t believe abuse was occurring or that the mother needed protection. The medical evidence we could gather to dispute this was mediocre at best. We did try to arrange for a family meeting to attempt to patch things up, but ultimately, the mother refused to attend. I had no way to force the mother to attend.
I explained to the clients that based on the evidence, their likelihood of success was very low, and that it would be very expensive to continue to proceed in a case that was unlikely to bring a satisfactory result for them, and I didn’t recommend they continue, but that was their choice. They chose not to continue.
It’s never fun to have to deliver news to clients that they don’t want to hear. Part of being a good lawyer is examining a case without emotion or bias, and giving frank advice based on that analysis. I do not believe it is a fair comment to say that this was a case of lacking legal skill or willingness to represent them. It was more their appraisal of the situation could not be backed up with any amount of significant proof that would have enabled a remedy under the law.
