While auto accidents would seem to be a simple scenario, they can actually be quite complex. It can be very important that you hire the "right attorney" with appropriate credentials to assist you. Remember, the worst lawyer in Missouri who has managed to keep practicing for 30 years, has "30 years of experiecne" For more instructional information please fee free to go to my website for additional free information about auto accidents, It is designed to be very informative

  2. Workers compensation
    20%
On the job injuries including Occupational Diseases such as repetitive trauma, permanent partial disability, temporary total disability, permanent Total Disability and death benefits for survivors. Do to changes in the law and special deadlines created by the legislature, it is very important to hire a knowledgeable and skilled workers' compensation attorney. Please see my website's workers compensation page for an instructional video and other information to assist you.

  3. Defective and dangerous products
    15%
This IS a very complex area of the law. Many lawyers do not even understand to law of product liability. They call it "Strict Liability". It is not! Please review my instructonal video and other information about Product Liability on firm's website.

  4. Personal injury
    15%
This area includes other types of negligence actions including premises liability such as slip and falls, failure to provide security and the like. Like the other types of cases, these matter can become quite complex and, many lawyers will not take them because the client is often found to be partially at fault. You must hire a lawyer who has tried these types of cases and knows how to deal with these issues.

  5. Wrongful death
    10%
Wrongful death is a cause of action created by the legislature and did not exist at common law. Wrongful death claims can arise out of may types of "torts" including auto/truck accidents, product liability, malpractice, industrial or constructioon accidents. Knowledge and competence regarding the type of case together with knowlege of the statute itself is absolutely necessary to properly "handle" a wrongful death case in MO. See my website for more information.

  6. Medical malpractice
    5%
These cases ARE both complex and very difficult to win. The are also very expensive to prepare and try to a conclusion. Therefore, we are VERY selective of the types of malpractice case we accept. Recent changes in the law by the legislature, including caps on non-economic damages and changes in joint and several liability make these all the more difficult to handle economically. You must have serious, permanent economic damages (bills and lost wages) or we will not accept your case.

  7. Trucking accident
    5%
The handling of a truck accident, particularly an accident involving as so-called 18 wheeler is actually a very complex matter no matter how simple it may appear to be. You lawyer must be familiar with industry standards, state and federal regulations, technology, and the investigative practices of the industry or you my have the wrong lawyer. See my website for more information.

MY FIRM’S MISSION STATEMENT — IT IS DIFFERENT THAN THE USUAL STANDARD STATEMENTS BY MANY PERSONAL INJURY FIRMS OR LAWYERS.

“We care about you”. Do you really think any law firm would advertize or have a mission statement that they don’t care! Here is another interest tag line.

“Experienced and Professional” I have never seen an ad or mission statement that we have no experience and we are unprofessional. For Pete’s sake, lawyers are all professionals licensed by the Missouri Bar. Likewise you will see words such as “aggressive”, “compassionate” “serious” or statements such as “no recovery – no fee”, “we can help”, “Quality Legal Representation” and of course the always “free initial consultation”.

Every person and every case are different. There is no cookie cutter method of handling personal injury cases. I know that there are hundreds of lawyers in the metropolitan area who “handle personal injury cases”

Our goal is to provide you with the most information possible to help you understand how the system works and if you choose to hire my firm to advise you and keep you informed throughout the process. We want to make certain you have all the information to make the right decisions for you and or your family starting with the basics:

  1. Do I need a lawyer?
  2. How do I hire the right lawyer?
  3. Can I settle my property damage claim separately from my injury claim?
  4. Do I need a lawyer for my property damage claim?
  5. Should I talk to the other guy’s insurance adjuster?
  6. Should I let them record a statement?
  7. Should I give them the names of the doctor’s and hospitals where I was treated?
  8. Should I sign medical authorizations to let the other guy’s insurance company?
  9. Should I notify my insurance company?
It has happened to me and my family:

  1. My father was killed by a young driver who was under the influence of alcohol when I was 21. The horrific damage and effects of that accident are damaging my family today, as you read this message. The accident happened 39 years ago. I know what happens when a loved one and a bread winner is killed at the hands of a negligent driver.
  1. My daughter was involved in a terrible accident wherein she sustained bilateral skull fracture and a traumatic brain injury. While my daughter is doing remarkably well, I watched first hand as she struggled to recover regain some control of her life. I know what it is like to watch a loved one struggle to rebuild her life.
  1. I myself have been injured on the job and suffered a ruptured disc. I had surgery and went through weeks of physical therapy. I know what it is like to be injured, lose time from work and struggle to regain your strength and career.

Satisfied Client
Although our case is not completed, I couldn't be more satisfied that Tom is treating our inheritence battle as though it was his own family money involved, His communication is prompt, clearly written with a dose of wit and urgency to get the court's moving. Jeannine

Mr. DeVoto's representation in our serious case
From the first day of our disaster to THIS day (that has been over 7 years now)......Mr. Devoto has been not only caring, concern AND proactive...he is NOT a lawyer that takes the money and runs. Since the settlement that he totally supported us through..he still is our friend and highly respected counsel for ANY issues that we have. I cannot really say in words how his wisdom and advise has helped myself and my family. We will always be blessed and thankful that he was involved with our case.

"Tom DeVoto goes “all in” with his clients on their personal injury claims and uncovers every possible theory to provide them a full recovery of damages. While shaped early on at one of the finest large trials firms in St. Louis, he brings a small firm ease of dealing. Tom’s reputation alone comprises his advertising because he is well known for his results and approach. He gets his work from other attorneys and past clients, so silly billboards and tv ads are unnecessary."
