Biography
David is an experienced trial attorney who has successfully litigated and tried cases in a number of specialized areas, and on behalf of both plaintiffs and defendants. His knowledge and experience representing both sides of the litigation equation have generated extraordinary results, including nationally recognized, record-setting verdicts and awards.
David spent 18 years at one of the region’s largest defense firms. In that capacity, he practiced as a commercial litigator in several specialized areas of the law including antitrust, health care, securities litigation, Telephone Consumer Protection Act/media law, and product liability. He has represented a broad range of businesses, ranging from Fortune 500 companies to small start-up companies, and including health care systems, international medical device manufacturers, national banks, and an international tire manufacturer.
These representations have given him extensive experience in complex litigation matters such as national class actions and multi-district litigation. David also has counseled health care entities in a variety of contexts such as antitrust and false claims act investigations and lawsuits.
David has represented individuals and companies in high-stakes, sometimes billion-dollar, litigation in both the plaintiff and defendant context, including construction and mass catastrophe cases. As some representative examples, David obtained:
*A complete defense verdict in a highly publicized case stemming from a gas explosion which killed one, injured many, and destroyed a popular restaurant in Kansas City, Missouri;
*A record-setting $60 million jury verdict on behalf of a nonprofit health clinic;
*A seven-figure award for a former NFL player concerning securities fraud;
*One of the largest individual auction rate security settlements in the nation;
*A $16 million trial team jury verdict in an unfair competition case; and
*Numerous six-figure product liability settlements.

Product warranty
I had a claim against a major company concerning a manufacturing defect in one of their products. I tried to work with the company to resolve the complaint but to no avail. I had Mr. Helms intervening on my behalf. After several exchanges between attorneys the complain was resolved fairly.
