I’ve waited for 3 years to write a review of this attorney, and the attorney I THOUGHT I was hiring, former Judge Susan Block. I wanted to believe her upbeat, outgoing and reassuring personality. I continued through mistake after mistake, excessive and unnecessary document subpoenas and copies (I al...ready had everything needed) and multiple confusions regarding which case she was working on as well as the updates to my particular case. She and Susan made a critical and costly mistake with a concern I voiced in my initial consultation and paying of my retainer. I emphasized the importance of the upcoming deadline, multiple times, and once again as our meeting was ending. Susan specifically said, “Don’t you worry about this anymore! You let us worry about it!” They forgot all about it. They refused to admit their mistake and instead of taking my wish to wait and see what my ex’s response would be, Amy INSISTED that we present an offer first, which included a way for me to obtain what I had lost...but at my expense. Which continues to cost me $14,000/year and could have been an equitable part of my settlement with no cost to me, had she (and Susan) NOT failed in this main concern I voiced at the very first meeting. When I hired this law firm, I specifically said I wanted a senior partner. While I understood the important role junior partners played, and their requirement to “pay their dues” I had worked in law offices before. I wanted a senior partner, and Susan Block was a former Judge, as they are able to focus on a small percentage of cases compared to a junior partner. Susan assured me that Amy was just her “right hand.” That wasn’t true. The more I voiced my Concern regarding Amy’s stretched-thin case load, the more Amy took personal offense. I was continuously chided and shamed that I would question Amy’s choices, her lack of knowledge regarding updates concerning my case, and her tactics in which I voiced my desire for an alternative method. Amy viewed any question I had as an attack on her. When I brought a family member with me to an update meeting, Amy expressed, “I am a good attorney” three times before we even started. After this amount of time I’d like to share to everyone that if your lawyer needs to insist they are a good attorney, they aren’t. I think she felt if she said it often and emphatically enough, it might become true. Now, I really liked Amy Hoch-Hogenson, the person. Insofar as her family structure and personal beliefs, I thought we were a good fit. This is when I must let others know that just because we LIKE an attorney insofar as their “real lives,” their competence, ability, as well as likability as the expert professional you’re paying them (exorbitantly) to be, can be drastically inferior. That’s what my experience as Amy as my attorney was, a complete failure. She pressured me (intensely) to sign a blank piece of paper that would be my acceptance of the Dissolution of Marriage, before I got to read her finalized copy. She knew she had failed me so often, on the final meeting we had (where she said she was making the revisions as we went through them all AND she pressured me to sign the acceptance of the document without the document provided) she actually hired a court reporter to take down the meeting verbatim. I didn’t mind, I know she had been contentious regarding my questions, however, she conveniently stopped the reporter every time I mentioned a failure, a mix-up or complete misunderstanding resulting from her, and the costs I incurred because of them. In my experience with Amy, Susan and their roles as representatives of this firm, they committed malpractice and severe lack of prudence. I’m quite confident Amy secured her place as as a Senior Partner in waits, with my billing v work done on my case alone. Amy is personable. In my case, my opinion is she was overworked, ready to cut me off as a client asap and completely incompetent. I’m sure she’s better, now. That doesn’t help me

I came to this site to rate Amy and was disgusted at the "1 star" ratings I saw and read when I got here. I'd like to tell the hateful "bashers" to get a grip and realize their selfish attitudes were their biggest demise. Attorneys typically have multiple clients I've known Amy 7 years. Almost 6 y...ears after my divorce, Amy and I continue to stay in touch (over coffee and lunch no less). I trust Amy implicitly. During my divorce, I gave Amy permission to have a perspective client call me on my cell to see what I thought of her. This jerk of a guy signed on then lied to Amy about "significant details" (I wasn't privy to those). Amy was backed into a corner and had to fire him (I'm assuming he's a 1 star). I'm a man who went through a rough divorce. I was very emotional and had no clue how to find an attorney. When I stumbled into Paule, Camazine and Blumenthal to look at a rate sheet for their attorneys, I was clueless how to proceed. I must have looked hopeless because the receptionist said "I think Amy Hogenson would be perfect for you". She couldn't have been more right. Amy is a unique combination of outstanding professionalism, compassion and empathy. She has that rare gift to truly "listen" to what a client says and offer up more than one suggestion or piece of advice. My absolute favorite thing about Amy is the way in which she calmly and sincerely spoke to me with full eye contact in a very personal way. I never felt like I was being talked "at" buy a "suit". Amy is a mother of two yet manages to be a incredible mom while working harder and with more passion than any other professional I know. Amy is truly amazing and I shudder to think where I'd be had I not found her. Amy is a genuine friend!

Amy has represented me 3 times in the past 8 years. Through an intense divorce and custody battle in 2008, modification in 2011, and Again in 2015 revardiv a domestic dispute eating to the trials mentioned before. Amy exceeded my expectations in all ways. Strong, level, organized and available at all... times. Her ability to think outside the Box and to come up with resolutions that are not just winning, yet are positive in hopes to achieve a long term goal of positive co-parenting. Divorce is very emotional, and Amy has the compassion, trust factor, confidence, knowledge and the ability to help the client make the best decision keeping emotions balanced. I have used her 3 times, and refer her confidently to all people I know. Thank you Amy, I couldn't have done this without you.
