Consulted for help with mother's estate: value less than $100000. She was recommended by U of A Legal Clinic. Didn't tell me I could handle myself under AR law. Valued estate at about $165K (insurances cost to replace at today's prices); said it had to go through probate. When I objected to value,... said was only thing she had to go on, & that's how it's done. Charged for time before mother died. Slow responding to calls/email until my brother & I complained, then overdid, checking "just to see how I was doing"; causing more time charges. So bad my bro. wrote letter to judge complaining about her. Tried to charge exorbitant fee, but decreased when I said I would go to bar association. I had to do many things I thought I was paying her to do. Billed for time to correct her errors on inventory of personal property and final distribution of funds that I had to point out to her. Added charges to her final bill when I asked for itemization of expenses, claiming they were "missed" in prep of bill but she wasn't charging for them. Then after itemization, final bill was increased by several hundred dollars.
