Criminal Masquerading as an Attorney

Do not hire. This is a terrible law firm ran by amateurs who don't care about your case and are only there to delay and bill you. I argued for 8 months to move forward with a rule to show cause only to be ignored by everyone at the firm. Winter will delegate everything to her assistant Jessica. Jessi...ca waited until less than 24 hours before my trial to make sure everything was ready only to find out that opposing counsel didn't file what they needed to move forward delaying my case again. 250 dollars an hour is what she charges for this type of representation. I called the office and complained, and Winter quit. She immediately filed a motion to withdraw after i pointed out incompetent mistakes made by her and her staff. We went to court on Aug 10th, and she was allowed to withdraw. I fought it at first, but the judge convinced me that I should not keep her because I would never have the confidence that she was giving me 100%. I agreed and she was off my case. I got a bill on Aug 5th for $760.00 and paid it out of my retainer. After that bill I had $3238.30 remaining on my retainer. I called her office Monday August 25,2025 to tell them I wanted to come by and pick up my file and remaining retainer. I verified with Hanna the receptionist that there were no remaining charges and my current balance on my retainer was $3238.30. They told me I could come by Friday August 29,2025. When i showed up they gave me a flash drive and a check for $905.30. I asked where the rest of my retainer was and that I wanted an itemized receipt for the $2333.00 that was missing. She told me to leave, or she would call the cops. She told me she would email it to me. That was at 4pm. The email should have been delivered in minutes, but I didn't receive the bill until 7pm, 3 hours later with a bunch of charges added from June. In over a year I had only had two bills over $1000.00 and those were in person court appearances but somehow from the last bill i received on Aug 5th, 2025, until Aug 29th, 2025, I had amassed a bill for $2333.00. I am currently in the process of trying to recover this money through court action. AVOID THIS ATTOURNEY! Winter has no integrity and will retaliate if you point out mistake or problems with your case. I have had several attorneys over the last ten years due to an ongoing custody case, and I can say without a doubt Winter Daye Campenella has been the worst experience I have had with an attorney.

Eric is a former client who i terminated due to his aggressive behavior towards my team. We send invoices and Eric received an invoice showing our work. All attorneys in the firm work together but I supervise their work. Eric begged me not to terminate our services and when I refused he's taken to leaving a negative review. While Eric is misguided I wish him all the best.

The First and Right Choice

The Right Choice - I want to take some time to share how my experience with the team at Campanella Law firm was the best I could have ever asked for. There is definitely a stigma or a perception that many of us have when it comes to lawyers. This is most definitely NOT what I experienced with Winter ...Campanella. Communication was the best I have ever had when working with a lawyer. We met to go over what would be covered in court and answer any questions I might have. I was beyond nervous with a ton of anxiety. Winter calmed me down and was consistent in what she said we would do. The process with getting a court date was time consuming and yes she still was able to get dates as soon as she could. If anyone ever wants to reach out to me for a referral for Campanella Law Firm, I am happy to answer any question about my experience (I'll leave all the legal stuff to her). You will most definitely be in great hands with Winter and her team. She should be your first call.

Great experience

Winter was our attorney for a family matter regarding our foster daughters. Winter was very professional and knowledgeable in all her dealings with us and in court. She worked with us as the case moved to adoption and finished up representing us as we adopted our girls.

Hit and run

My girlfriend and i met with winter on October 4,2018 about my Hit and run case. She told me that she had to confer with her partner in Carbondale IL as he knows more about these types of cases then she does. She would call me back within 2 weeks. This never happened. I called her back on October 25 ...and talk with Melissa Winter's Secretary for case status and found out that i had no case either do to Driver Negligence or a Willful act and that i would get a formal letter stating i have no case. I called again on November 1,2018 because i became suspicious cause i had no formal letter. Her Secretary Melissa told me Winter was out of town until Nov 13. I received a Formal letter today November 5 from her. she's out of town who signed this?? I would never go back! I trust don't her. Her partner's name in Carbondale il should also be on this letter. It took her a month to get me a letter. I think attorney's Ethics says i i should have had this within 2 weeks. I'm fully disabled. I'm still making complaints about this.

Disappointed

I had hired her to represent me in a divorce. I had a "gut" feeling from the beginning that she was not going to represent me well and unfortunately I was correct. She initially pointed out that she wasn't "afraid" of the opposing attorney. I wasn't even considering that but to me that meant she wa...s "afraid" of the opposing attorney. After the first court appearance, I knew for certain she wasn't right for me. I called her office to discontinue her services. Within an hour, she called me on my work cell phone and lit into me like I was on the stand. She wanted me to tell her specifically why I wanted to discontinue with her. At that time I was dealing with the grief of the divorce plus the future of my kids, home and life savings. The last thing I needed was for her to grill me. That phone encounter really made it more obvious than ever that I should go with another attorney.
