Biography
Martin Haxel is a Springfield-based attorney whose three-decade career spans roles from public service to private practice. After earning undergraduate degrees at Southern Illinois University–Edwardsville—funded by factory work and cemetery maintenance—he attended Saint Louis University Law, bartending evenings and researching cases at a local firm. Upon passing the bar, he joined the Illinois Attorney General’s office, defending state interests while supporting his family with his wife, Laurie, and their three children. In 1990 he founded Haxel Law, focusing on personal injury and workers’ compensation. Recognized for his insider knowledge of insurance tactics, he has negotiated numerous multimillion-dollar settlements, most notably a $1.3 million policy-limit award for a severely injured motorcyclist. Clients praise his no-nonsense approach, integrity, and willingness to go to trial. Outside the office, he stays active playing senior league hockey, cycling scenic trails, and boating on Lake Springfield.
