Divorce and Separation 50%

A divorce lawyer helps you if you no longer want to be married. Whether you want a legal separation or the marriage ended, divorce lawyers assist you to arrange financial and family matters, typically in a negotiation with your spouse's lawyer. Alimony, child custody, child support, and a fair division of community assets (like who keeps the house or how your checking and savings accounts are divided) are matters that a divorce lawyer is trained to help determine.

Child Custody 20%

If you divorce and have children, part of the process will involve sharing parenting time with your children. A child custody lawyer can help you negotiate custody. The custodial parent (the one the child lives with) has the legal right to make decisions regarding the child. Many parents agree to joint custody, which means parents share the right to make decisions on behalf of the children. If you as parents are unable to agree on child custody, a judge will decide for you.

Child Support 10%

If parents divorce, the parent the child lives with receives child support. A child support lawyer can help parents negotiate and calculate child support, either by agreement or in court. While state guidelines to calculate child support amounts exist, you or the judge may choose some other amount. A child support lawyer can be useful during negotiations to help determine the most appropriate amount of child support for your situation.

Family 10%

Family law includes laws of marriage, civil unions, same-sex relationships, domestic partnerships, divorce, separation, property settlements, alimony, spousal abuse, adoption, child abuse, child support, child custody and kidnapping. If you need help with a family-related legal issue, a family law attorney can advise in family disputes as well as represent you in lawsuits.

Mediation 10%

The mediation process can resolve disputes without going to court. A neutral third party (mediator) meets with you and the other party. Mediators are trained to find solutions. The mediator acts as a facilitator, helping you negotiate until a solution is found. Mediation is the most informal process for dispute resolution and is usually the least expensive method.

Great service

We consulted Mr. Meehan on a pending legal issue, and he responded in a timely manner and gave us very sound guidance that resulted in us not needing to proceed with further legal action.

Unsurpassed Experience and Advisement – Child Custody

From day one I’ve been extremely grateful for choosing Mike Meehan to represent me and my child. His advisement throughout has always been in the best interest of both my son and me. His office was extremely responsive to my inquiries and they kept me abreast of all events of my case. His office alwa...ys sent an email, called, AND texted with notification of any changes. Both Mike and his paralegal Carmen worked closely with me throughout the case and I often felt as though I was their only client or a close family member they were helping. My case took 8 months from the time I retained Mike to the time we received the order from the judge. There was a great deal of conflict between my ex and I during this time. There were threats of withholding my child from me during holidays, showing up off scheduled time demanding additional visitation time and I once had to call the police. Mike made himself available through all of it, including an evening call and during a holiday. Mike took action on these matters in court when needed. Also, Carmen was extremely comforting during the trying times. She should be paid for therapy sessions as I called with concerns of new accusations or behavior from my ex quite often. Carmen promptly relayed information to Mike and I would always hang up feeling less overwhelmed and upset by the events. My case was unfortunately not settled in mediation and went to trial. There were only a few times throughout the whole process I did not agree with Mike’s advice but chose to trust his experience as an attorney and a previous Judge; I could not be more grateful for having done that! The outcome of the trial was in my favor and I was awarded custody. During trial I was very nervous but Mike prepared my witness’ and me well. He met us on Sunday for prep and late evenings. He even drove me to the court house to ensure I knew where to go on the first day of trial. Mike was appropriately aggressive during trial, and during the redirect of a witness he picked up on something that allowed him to show they were untruthful on a recross; which was a blessing for me (nothing is more frustrating than sitting quietly while someone is lying about events)! The attentiveness to what was always happening was impressive and he immediately acted on discrepancies. I think I used up an entire notepad during the trial with comments. He was great with guiding me on what was and wasn’t relevant to the case. I was very much made a part of the entire process. Mike Meehan is extremely honest and knowledgeable. His guidance will always be in your, and your child’s best interest. It’s easy for the parties involved to get caught up in the nonsense of bickering over the little stuff and blaming. Mike and Carmen will keep you grounded and focused on what really matters. Follow their guidance and you will not regret it regardless of the outcome. They are as compassionate as they are ethical and knowledgeable, and I am truly grateful for that.

I would highly recommend!

I hired this attorney after reading his reviews and learning he was a judge at one time. The first time I met Mr. Meehan I was pleasantly surprised. He was very knowledgeable but more importantly he was honest. He took time to listen to me and genuinely cared. He told me he is always available and wi...ll keep in close contact. He even gave me his cell phone number. That first day I knew he was the attorney for me. I was able to reach him anytime I needed something or even had a question. I knew where every dollar was going because he sent an itemized bill every month. My child custody case was settled today and I couldn't be more pleased. He was able to do what two previous attorneys were not. He is a well respected man inside the court house and out. I would hire him a million times over again.

Caveat Emptor

Worst lawyer I've ever had. When an opposing lawyer sent a proposal, this lawyer sat on them for a month before telling me about it, and only then when I asked. When I expressed my disappointment, he abruptly quit my case midstream, leaving me hanging. In the end, all I was left with was a bill for n...o significant services rendered. Buyer beware!
