Like most at Johnson Law Group, I previously worked as a prosecutor. However, I always understood that people make mistakes, and I saw firsthand that police can get it wrong. While prosecuting, I often disagreed with the harsh outcomes I was prompted to argue for, especially for individuals who made small mistakes or minor errors in judgment. I frequently wanted to be more compassionate. This is why I joined JLG. I wanted to let my compassion show and fight for the little guy.

Between the fear of the unknown, and the possible loss of freedom, facing criminal charges can be the most stressful event a person can experience. At JLG, I put my compassion and prosecuting experience to work to serve our clients. I know the State’s tricks, I’m familiar with many of the local prosecutors by first name, and what prosecutors try to get away with. At JLG, I pride myself in working tirelessly for our clients, to provide comfort and dependability, and in guiding them through what is for many of them the most difficult time in their lives.

Growing up, my parents ran a small business together in Peoria, not far from our Peoria office. Through their example, they instilled in me the value of hard work. Unlike many attorneys, my path to law school was not a direct line after high school. I gained life experience by working fast food, in a factory, and by building houses. Through these experiences, I learned what it takes to work a physically demanding job; to this day, one of my favorite meals includes two all-beef patties and a sesame-seed bun. While prosecuting, through the dozens of jury and bench trials I did, along with the countless substantive motion hearings, I learned what it takes to work a mentally demanding job. I am no stranger to hard work or the outcomes that come from it. At JLG, I revel in working hard for our clients, and little makes me happier than seeing the relief a client feels after seeing my hard work get a good outcome.

At home, I’m a husband and father of five. I enjoy spending time with my wife, watching my children grow and learn, and keeping up with the ever-evolving law pertaining to criminal defense.
