Katherine Gipe Holmes

In June 2022, I paid Katherine Gipe a $3,500 retainer for legal representation. After approximately one hour of consultation, I decided to work with an attorney in New York (where I was located) whom Ms. Gipe had actually recommended, as she practiced in Chicago. In December 2022, I requested the ...return of my unused retainer funds ($3,000, which was actually generous considering her hourly rate). After a follow-up email in late January 2023, she replied requesting my mailing address to send a check. I promptly provided my address, but never received any payment. Since then, I have made numerous attempts to contact Ms. Gipe through calls, emails, and text messages, all of which have gone unanswered. Initially, I was concerned something might have happened to her, as her silence was unexpected from someone who had presented herself as professional and ethical. Recently, I learned through our mutual contact (who had introduced us) that Ms. Gipe is receiving my communications and has claimed to this mutual contact that she has already paid me. This is simply untrue. If payment had been made, it would be simple to provide proof rather than ignore over two years of communication attempts. This concerning pattern suggests clients should be cautious when considering her services. If I do not get resolution shortly I will be pursuing this matter with the Illinois ARDC https://www.iardc.org/ and encourage anyone else with similar issues to do the same.
